Sobaeksan National Park in South Korea is a branch of what could be called the backbone of Korea, Taebaeksan Mountain. In 1987, Sobaeksan Mountain was designated as National Park No.18. Its covers an area of 320.50 square km. The features of Sobaeksan National Park include wild flowers and royal azaleas on Birobong Peak, and the largest yew tree community is found on the northwest slope (1,200-1,350 m above sea level) between Yeonhwabong Peak and Birobong Peak. The west of Mt. Sobaeksan is steep, and streams from Nakdonggang River flow to Jukgyaecheon River, which is often used as a hiking course. Following down from Birobong Peak along Jukgyaecheon River is Seokryun Mine and Choamsa Temple. If you proceed even further, you will get to Seokcheonpokpo Falls and Seonghyeolsa Temple. Many trout live in this valley. A 4-km flat path to the southwest of Birobong Peak leads to Yeonhwabong Peak. There is Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory (SOAO) on the way to the second Yeonhwabong Peak, and a ridge called Jukryeong is on the south side of the mountain. To the east of the second Yeonhwabong Peak, there is Huibangsa Temple and Birosa Temple, both built during the time of the Silla Kingdom. Huibangpokpo Falls is considered the most beautiful waterfall of Gyeongsangnam-do Province, and is at the entrance of Huibangsa Temple. Featuring beautiful valleys and ridgelines, Sobaeksan National Park is known for its abundant wildlife and breathtaking nature.

The Lower Nakdonggang River Seasonal Bird Migration Site was designated as a natural monument on July 13th, 1966, and it has a large river-mouth, sand dunes, delta, Ilungdo Island, Eulsukdo Island and other surrounding islands. The snipes and waterfowls stop by when they pass Korea during the fall and spring, and the ducks and geese find their way here in the winter. This area, where the Nakdonggang River (낙동강) and the South Sea meet, has over 150 species of birds, which visit between October and March. You're most likely to see swans, and even raptorial species like eagles and white-tailed eagles. It is a large area with thick groves of reeds, which make it hard to approach by land. In order to watch migratory birds, you should take a boat from Myeongji-dong harbor and get a local guide to help you. The ideal time for bird watching is between 9am and 4pm.Eulsukdo Island (을숙도) is one of the places you absolutely cannot miss. It is a delta island, and is well known as a paradise for over a hundred thousand birds. It is an amazing sight to see some ultra-rare species of birds like the white-naped cranes, the blackfaced spoonbills, and the white-tailed eagles, as they arrive and spend the winter.

For over four decades since it was first developed to provide industrial water, the 1.2㎢ lake area has been isolated with high barbed wire fences set up for water quality control and safety reasons. As time went by, the area has fallen behind in comparison with other regions and gradually became a deserted area. But now, after the wired fence has been removed, various facilities and walking paths were created to compliment the breathtaking scenery and the surroundings.

Gangguan Port Geobukseon is life-size reconstruction of a Geobukseon ship constructed by the South Korean Navy and commissioned by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to commemorate the patriotic spirit of Admiral Chungmugong Lee Sun-Sin. The 2.2-billion-won project was completed in the downstream area of the Hangang River (part of the DMZ), which previously had limited public access. After that, the area was opened to the public for the first time in 52 years (since the division of the peninsula) to allow the Geobukseon Ship to travel from Hangang Park to Tongyeong-si. The Gasa Poetry Hall is located in Damyang in Jeollanam-do Province, an area which is famous for its fertile land and rich historical heritage. During the Joseon Dynasty, when Chinese classical literature had great influence, some scholars wrote poems in Korean called "Gasa." A total of 18 representative Gasa poems such as "Gwandongbyeolgok" and "Samiingok" are housed in the Gasa Poetry Hall, earning Damyang the title of "the heart of Gasa poetry." Damyang-gun County established the Gasa Poetry Hall in order to pass down the important cultural heritage of Gasa to future generations. In the museum, historical literature such as “Myeonangjip” (a collection of Gasa poems by Song Sun) and “Songgangjip,” (a collection of Gasa poems by Jeong Cheol) are on display. In the auxiliary facilities, local specialties are exhibited and traditional teas are available for purchase. Other major tourist attractions in the area are Soswaewon Garden and Sigyeongjeong Pavilion, whose beauty has been source of inspiration for Gasa poets throughout history.

The Chunghyeon Museum (충현박물관) is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the seonbi (male Confucian scholars of the Joseon Dynasty) culture and is the only museum located in the house of a leading family – that of Lee Wonik who served as a prime minister during the Joseon Dynasty, and was noted for upholding the spirit of integrity that was synonymous with the seonbi. Many relics and remains of classical scholars are on display here.

Cheongsapo Port is located on the right at the end of Dalmaji Hill in the direction of Songjeong in Haeundae. Along with Gudeokpo Port and Mipo Port, Cheongsapo Port is among the three ports lined against the coastal shore between Haeundae and Songjeong. Cheongsapo Port is famous as a place to view beautiful sunsets and where quality seaweed can be found. The rocks scattered along the port's shore are crowded with fishers. Railroad tracks that run along the shoreline make the area even more special, being one of the only two railroad tracks in Korea to be situated near sea.

Starting from Gonaepogu Port, Route 16 passes through Namduyeondae (beacon tower), Gueompogu Port, Susanbong Peak, Susan Reservoir Path, Hangmong Historical Site, Cheonghwa Village and finally ending at Gwangnyeong 1-ri Office. The trail is a 17.8-km walking course that includes uphill sections, passing through the woods, and going up some steps after Sineompogu Port. Therefore, it may not be suitable for baby carriages and wheelchairs.
