From Gwanghwamun Gate (광화문), the heart of downtown Seoul, straight down to the very the tip of the peninsula lies the warmest place on the Korean mainland, Jangheung County’s Jeongnamjin (정남진). The region has a diverse natural environment including stunning views of mountains, fields, the ocean, lakes, rivers and streams. It also as well as cultural sites such as Cheongwansan Mountain, Bangchon Cultural Village, and Borimsa Temple, one of the three major Borimsa Temples in Asia.

The Jeongnamjin district has a wide variety of tourist attractions nearby such as the Samsan Embankment, a provincial park on Cheongwansan Mountain; a literature park; and Sodeungseom Island, the filming place of the movie “Festival”. You can also enjoy the beautiful sunrise or take a seawater bath at Anyang water gate. There are a diverse number of events based on natural resources of the area like the Jeam Azalea Festival, Pen Shell Festival, Pike Eel Festival, Aqua Festival, Gaemegi Fishing Festival, and the Cheongwan Mountain Eulalie Festival.

Utilization information

・Information : Gaemegi Fishing Festival (annually from July to August)
* Location: Off the shore of SinVillage, The Town of Daedeok Jangheung County
* Details: Most common fish caught are gray mullet, sea bream
* Admission fee: 5000 won per person (3000 won for those below 10 or over 70,)

Access

Option 1: From the Seoul Central City Bus Terminal catch the bus to Jangheung (departures Mon-Thu: 08:50 15:40 16:50/ Fri-Sun: 08:00 08:50 15:40 16:50, travel time 5 hours)

Option 2: Take the bus from Gwangju to Jangheung (available every 5 to 10 minutes from 05:30 to 01:00, takes 3 hrs and 40min)

Option 3: Take KTX Train to either Mokpo or Gwangju and take the bus to Jangheung from there (frequent departures, takes 1~1.5 hrs).

Please note that the Jeongnamjin beach area can easily be reached using the inner-district buses of Jangheung County at Jangheung Station
