Geumodo Island, included in the area of Dadohaehaesang National Park, has a shape resembling a big terrapin. Many fables, folk songs and folk games have been told of this island. It features dense forests along with wild ginseng and used to be an area for hunting deer, available only to the Royal House during the Joseon period.
Also, the island is a spawning areas for Black Porgy (Gamseongdom). Including the black porgy, the fishing site is suitable for other types of fish such as a red sea bream, rock bream and more. 35 species of rare birds such as brown shrike, eagle-owl and more are living in the island, so it is regarded as an animal paradise.

Access
From Central City Terminal or Dong Seoul Bus Terminal, take an intercity bus bound for Yeosu Intercity Bus Terminal.
- To Yeosu Coastal Ferry Terminal
Transfer to Bus 88 and get off at Jungang Market Bus Stop. (9 bus stops away)
Walk 180m to Yeosu Coastal Ferry Terminal.
* From Yeosu Coastal Ferry Terminal to Geumodo Island (Hamgumi): three times a day (1 hr 40 min)
- To Yeosu Jungang-dong Mullyangjang (물량장)
Transfer to Bus 82 and get off at Police Station Bus Stop. (17 bus stops away)
Walk along Dongmun-ro until Jungang-dong Rotary and then take a left at the crossroad to reach the Mullyangjang.
* From Mullyangjang to Geumodo Island (Uhak): three times a day (1 hour 20 min)
