Mukho Lighthouse

Gangwon-do(Donghae-si) ,
Mukho Port was opened on August 11, 1941 and has been a major port for fishing and trading (mainly, coal). Established on June 8, 1963, Mukho Lighthouse has been a guardian of ships and boats ever since. Located 67m up the slopes of Mt. Dongmun, Mukho Lighthouse (12m in x_height) is a white and circular concrete structure with two floors. It is surrounded by a cozy park where forsythias blossom in spring and visitors can overlook the sea. The park is home to the Maritime Fishing Exhibition Hall, where visitors can learn about the history of fishing in the area. The lighthouse and its surrounding area are full of quiet and comfortable spots to relax and enjoy the scenery. Because of its location (on the highest point of Mukho beach), the lighthouse is absolutely crucial to the safety of ships and boats coming into the port. The lighthouse’s large light, installed in October 2003, was developed by Korean scientists and uses a rotating prism lens that can shine beams of light as far as 42km. * Opened: June 8, 1963 * Structure: white and circular concrete structure (12m in x_height) * Lighting: FlW10s * Characteristics: located on Mt. Dongmun next to Mukho Port (the largest port on the East Coast in Gangwon-do)

Byeoldobong Peak

Jeju-do(Jeju-si) ,
Situated in the east of Hwabuk 1-dong and along the coast, Byeoldobong is a parasitic mountain made of siliciclastic sedimentary rocks and lava. Its northern slope is dominated by steep cliffs where a large rock called Suicide Rock (Jasal Bawi/자살바위) is located. At the bottom of the cliffs are Whale Cave (Goraegul/고래굴) and an oddly-shaped rock that looks like a mother carrying her child on her back. Despite being only 136m high, Byeoldobong is home to Jangsu Trail, a walking path that stretches over 1.8km around coastal cliffs, overlooking the ocean. Considered the most pleasant trail on Jeju Island, it offers a spectacular view of numerous peaks, Jeju Port and its nearby villages, and the emerald-blue sea. Naturally, it is a popular tourist destination for family visitors and couples.

Gosapo Beach

Jeollabuk-do(Buan-gun) ,
Gosapo Beach commands a magnificent scenic view, thanks to the songnim (pine forest) planted along the beach as a windbreaker. During the summer season, visitors can set up their tents among the pine trees and look out onto the beach from their tents. Less well-known than Byeonsan Beach, Gosapo Beach offers a more quiet summer vacation. The cookhouse, bathhouse, and restrooms are clean and bright. For three days before or after the 1st and the 15th day in the lunar calendar, the sea seems to part, creating a path from Gosapo Beach to Haseom Island. Here, visitors can experience a natural phenomenon similar to the “Moses Miracle.”

Hallasan Seongpanak

Jeju-do(Jeju-si) ,
Seongpanak is one of the parasitic volcanoes on Jeju-do island. Parasitic volcanoes are smaller volcanoes formed by lava bursting through the edge of the main volacano, and there are over 350 on Jeju-do Island. Seongpanak is 1,215m high and situated between Jocheon-eup, Bukjeju-gun and Namwon-eup, Namjeju-gun. The name came from the shape of the vertical cliff that spreads roughly 500 meters outward and resembles a fortress (seong) made of wooden boards (pan). With its thick verdant forest, Seongpanak has a unique atmosphere all year around. The road here is clear and wide, but a bit uncomfortable to walk because of many rocks. The azaleas create a pink blanket in the spring, and blends well with the clear waterfall in the area.

Gujora Beach

Gyeongsangnam-do(Geoje-si) ,
Gujora Beach is a soft stretch of sand (30m wide, 1.1km long) that runs alongside the emerald-blue ocean. It was initially used by U.S. soldiers when a prisoner-of-war camp was established in Geoje in the aftermath of the Korean War. Since the 1970s, after the beach was opened to the public, it became better known for its natural beauty than its military history. The relatively shallow and warm water and nearby attractions (Mangsan, Sujeong Peak, Anseom, and Yundolseom) has made this beach one of the best weekend retreats in the region.Situated farther inland, partially encircled by the coastline, the water at Gujora Beach is calm and serene. Not only a great swimming spot, there are also a number of places nearby selling fresh sashimi as well as famous local produce such as anchovies and seaweed. Visitors can tour the nearby attractions (such as Gujora Fortress, Haegeumgang, Naedo, and Oedo) by taking a cruise.
