NANTA! “Korea’s first show with Exclusive theatre!” What’s NANTA? The show is titled COOKIN'because of its simple appeal to the audience. In addition, the title allows for a more international approach to the show that is called NANTAin Korea. The figurative meaning behind NANTAis a reckless punching of a typical boxing match. Our NANTA is a non-verbal performance of reckless rhythms that dramatize customary Korean percussion in a strikingly comedic stage show. It integrates unique Korean traditional tempos with a western performance style. NANTA is a comic musical non-verbal performance derived from the traditional Korean instrumental performance “Samulnori.” The kitchenis its backdrop, chefs its main characters. Knives and other kitchen utensils are transformed into musical instruments in the handsofthe performers. They thrill the audience with acrobatic cooking shows, a surprise wedding ceremony, and an exciting dumpling challenge. The highlightof the show is a “Water Drum Sequence” where drummers beat 5 standing kitchenware drums with water and LED lights on it and this climax makes theaudience confused whether it’s drum or their heart beating.       NANTA has been one of the most popular shows in Korea ever since it premiered in October 1997, drawing the largest number of spectators in Korean theatre history. NANTA made its international debut in 1999 at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it received an award for the best performance. Sincethen, NANTAhas shown in the U.K., Germany, Austria, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, the Netherlands, Australia, etc. Eventually NANTA made it all the way to New York, premiering at the Minetta Lane Theater(off-Broadway) on March 7, 2004 and ran for one and a half years. NANTA had become the first Asian show to open its own theatre on On/Off-Broadway theater! As the energetic spectacle for all ages, and the landmark of Seoul which attracts tourists from all over the world, NANTA aims to become the longest-running show in Korea. Its 365 days-open run theatre has welcomed more than 1 million foreign visitors and through the world tour(54 Countries. 305 cities), it has been meeting more than 2 million foreign audiences. Musical FiREMAN

4.8/5
Seoul(Jung-gu)
【In Aug 2017】'1+1 EVENT' ※Buy 1 Get 1 Fireman Ticket Free(1 Ticket = 2 Seats / 2 Ticket = 4 Seats ) Fire Man is a dramatization of an occupational performance of firefighters. Character comedy performance To awaken the citizen safety awareness Disaster safety for performance by combining the new keyword 'Yamakasi' To give us a dynamic action and spectacular performances.     A fire has happened! This time it is even worse! When the play starts, your hero will appear. Comedy Character Performance Firemen This is a story about how the firemen become heroes through many hardships. It is a story about them maturing.   Firefighters are there, as we have our very own neighbors. Whenever there is a dangerous situation or disaster, fire, or even if the animals escape from the zoo or there are mountain animals then we should call the 119. Nevertheless, their environment, treatment or eyes looking at them are the same and are all cold.. Maybe we do not have any feelings and do not really care for them nor know anything about them? The performance <Fire Man> is about how we do not know much about them and the closest we know is our hero firefighter's day-to-day protection and so we wanted to show the audience and make them want to closely to create and communicate while also being the envy of youths and children. I wanted to create story of a great firefighter and a future dream destination. Firefighters rescue personnel through the worst of circumstances such as at the scene of a fire scene or disaster but they also extinguish fires. They go beyond just extinguishing fires but they run around the city buildings and I believe parkour can express the best of their heroic movement. Rather than the average firemen we are showing more colorful, flowing parkour performance. <Fire Man> will stand out as a new stage act with firefighters.   Firefighters have tips for greater efforts to prevent accidents. So before any disaster even occurs, prevention of the disaster itself is what their first mission is. <Fire Man> is about anyone who wishes to be naturally informed through the performance as measures for disaster situations, from first aid to knowing how to prevent it. In February 2015 we had a two-week basic training which is used for the firefighting entrance test to the school with preliminary firefighters. Their training to become a firefighter was a lot more difficult than we can imagine, living with their emotions for a short period of time gave us a great sense of embracing their mission.           Mental and physical caricature of their daily sacrifice by default was shown by the production department throughout the process of creating a point where the <Fire Man> actors do harm to their sublimity, as an assistant. Practice went up twice to raise the stage but was overturned by its contents and now, it was equipped with little for its appearance. But we also have a long way to go. The fun starts now and we will change and work even harder to be able to meet our heroes up close and so we will continue to evolve. A fire has happened! This time it is even worse! When the play starts, your hero will appear. Comedy Character Performance Firemen This is a story about how the firemen become heroes through many hardships. It is a story about them maturing.     It is amazing to watch the Firemen work as they go to life risking locations and complete their duty to help and save others. They are people that have to go to any location no matter the situation. They go places which have unimaginable terror and they go through even fire to save people. To become heroes, the firemen go through a lot of hardships and the path to become an actual hero is long. This is the story of how the trainees go through harsh, strenuous training and develop their fighting vigour to become actual Firemen to be prepared for any situation. There may be times where they look magnificent or other times where they are ridiculous this is why we made the play very technical and comical.   Despite the smoke, The thick smoky fire field, Through a situation with only gas mask and hard to breathe smoke everywhere, What would be their choice?   To try and leap again A dangerous situation that crosses life and death The given time is just 4 minutes! The life is in critical condition spent over the Golden Time. But it can only through CPR can the heart beat again.   Into the blazing heart of the fire The siren sounds unfold a dire situation. The crews have oxygen bottles and masks to prepare for mobilization. What will they look like in front of the fire scene? [Lotus, A Flower Comes Out Once More] Two folktales in the performance.

Seoul(Jung-gu)
[Lotus, A Flower Comes Out Once More] Two folktales in the performance. Where you can meet the essence of Korean Dance. Jeongdong Theater, which is located in Jeongdong-gil; the beautiful street in flower-blooming pring, has a meaning of succession of ‘Wongaksa’, the first modern theater in Korea. Jeongdong has presented performances which retells Korean folktales and has help the audiences to understand it with qualified stage. Especially, <Lotus, A Flower Comes Out Once More>, which has its premier on last April. 6, is a well-made Korean traditional dance drama on which Korean folktales and traditional dance are combined.     This performance sends us a message about the true love, combining Korean folktales and newly recreating them as a Korean traditional dance drama. At the first, ‘The tale of Mrs Domi’ is a folktale of the period of three states in Korea. The king of Baekje has Mrs Domi, a humble woman, in his mind and he put her in danger to make her parting with her husband. However, with her wise courage, she overcomes from the trick of the king confirming the love with her husband. Igongbonpuri, another folktale in the performance, is a narrative shamanic myth in Jeju. The story is about a woman called Wongangam who died after her slave life in difficulties. She finally comes to life again as a flower called Wongangami thanks to her husband and son who buried her body in a flower garden. These two stories were combined and the performance <Lotus, A Flower Comes Out Once More> came out. This story which came from the two folktales contains the theme of ‘overcoming’ and ‘reviving’ which feature frequently in Korean traditional ideology so the meanings are coming heavily to the audiences who live in modern society. The image of strong woman from Mrs Domi and Wongangami is described into Seoryeon’s character, the protagonist of the performance. In the background of imaginary Joseon Dynasty, this performance presents the image of wise and strong woman who keeps her ideals in the difficulties and the path of achieving her wishes from her revive into traditional dance drama. The lyrics from <A song of floral tribute> and <A love song> cite words from folktales which are very familiar to Korean people and it raises bond of sympathy. Also, you can see various Korean traditional dance such as parilmu, a dance performed by 64 female dancers in ritual ceremony, Taepyeongmu, a dance praying for the peaceful reign and prosperity of the royal family, Geommu, a traditional sword dance which became powerful in the performance as man’s dance. I would love to strongly recommend this performance to whom love Korean traditional dance and look forward beautiful dance performance!       Interview with Chunghan Kim, Director and Choreographer of ‘Lotus, A Flower Comes Out Once More’ Q. Please talk about the title and the concept of <Lotus,>. The title <Lotus> came from the name of the protagonist, ‘Seo-ryeon’. (‘Ryeon’ literally means ‘Lotus’ in Korean language.) The story borrow its motif from ‘the tale of Mrs Domi’ of the period of three stages in Korea and ‘Igongbonpuri’ , a shamanic tale from Jeju Island. The main characters are the King and his man, general ‘Dodam’ and dancer ‘Seo-ryeon’. ‘Seo-ryeon’ is a important character of the story as she receive the loves from the King and Dodam at the same time. Dodam and Seo-ryeon confirmed their love and it is reason why relationship of the king and Dodam has problem. The tension from the triangle love is the main concept of this performance. Q. What is the symbol of the subtitle, ‘A flower Comes Out Once More’? The king is a character who let Seo-ryeon in for pain and difficulties using his power. However, she protects her self from the power. I would like to deliver two messages through this story. First, the King who uses his power in incorrect way is very similar with our social situation. There are many people who got hurt from it. Therefore I wish the people get more hope and comport from the reincarnation of Seo-ryeon. Second, I would like to talk about ‘Love’ and the beauty of Seo-ryeon through the character of a woman who keep the beauty her self against the power of the king.
