Yeonhwasan Mountain (연화산, located in Goseong, Gyeongnam Province) is just 528-meters, encompasses the three peaks of Ongnyeobong, Seondobong and Mangseonbong, and is widely recognized as an important provincial park. Although Mt. Yeonhwasan is called a ‘mountain’, it is more of a hill surrounded by picturesque scenery. Its north side is dotted with Buddhist temples such as historical Okcheonsa, Baengnyeonam, Cheongyeonam and Yeondaeam temples. Of these, the best attraction on Mt. Yeonhwasan is definitely Okcheonsa Temple (옥천사). If you begin hiking from the foot of the mountain you will see the beautiful sea off Danghangpo Port. If you continue southward you will soon run into the Okcheon Temple hidden in the Yeonbong woods. Okcheon Spring, located right behind the main hall of the temple, provides medicinal water all year round. The continual flow remains the same temperature all year round and is said to be an effective treatment for stomachaches and skin conditions. The surrounding area is well known for its healthy food products such as pine mushrooms and wild berries. 

Located in Galmal-eup in Cheorwon, Gangwon-do Province, Sambuyeon is a 20-meter high waterfall. The waterfall has a mystic impression with water cascading all year round without ever drying and surrounded by strangely shaped rocks. The waterfalls in three different areas, creating a shape that resembles a Gamasot, a traditional Korean metal cauldron used for making rice since the old days. There is also a local legend that a dragon flew into the air from this waterfall, hence the name Yonghwa-dong (yong meaning dragon) for the village. The area is very clean as there are no restaurants and convenience facilities. About a kilometer away is Yeougol Village, which is the site of the legend where a father who once killed a fox almost had a fox marry his son.

Geombongsan Mountain (681.6m) boasts a majestic mountain range that connects to the neighboring Sageumsan, Eungbongsan, and Yukbaeksan Mountains. The mountains pose an exciting challenge for mountain bike enthusiasts. The mountain ridge is covered with varied flower species including royal azaleas, iris, polygala, and violets. The summit of Geombongsan Mountain offers views of the boundless sea to the east, the sharply rising Eungbongsan Mountain (998.5m) to the south, and the slightly higher Sageumsan Mountain (1,092m) to the west. Located in Jindo-gun (Jeollanam-do), Jangjeon Art Museum (Formerly, Namjin Art Museum) was founded by a calligrapher named Ha Nam Ho in 2003. It is a three-story building with five exhibit halls that display various genres of art such as Korean paintings, Western paintings, calligraphy and sculpture. Over 350 pieces of work are on display, all of which are part of the collection of founder Ha Nam Ho. The artwork includes creations by deceased artists, veteran artists, and modern artists and includes Goryeo celadon, Joseon porcelain and much more. The name “Namjin” is made up of the founder’s middle name “Nam” and his wife’s name “Jin.” The little hill next to the museum is thick with pine trees, and the clear water in the nearby valleys adds to the peaceful museum atmosphere. The museum is closed on Mondays; Opening hours are from 10am to 6pm.

Wonju Station is located in the city of Wonju, the most inland section of Gangwon-do region. The station is located near downtown Wonju and is a hub of city transportation. Many passengers arriving in Wonju take public transit to visit Chiaksan Mountain, beautiful year-round. Wonju citizens can take the train to visit the capital, head to the northern section of Gyeongsangbuk-do, or enjoy a winter vacation on the snowy slopes of the Taebaek mountains. Surrounded by majestic pine trees, Huirisan (or Mt. Huiri) boasts an outstanding landscape; there is a reservoir at the foot of the mountain. Upon climbing to the top of the mountain, visitor can overlook the scenic West Sea. There are also numerous attractions near Huirisan: Chunjangdae Beach, Geumgang River Banks, and Hansan Mosi Town (“Mosi” referring to “Ramie,” the predominant fabric used for traditional Korean clothing)The top of the mountain (329m in x_height) is called Munsubong (or Munsu Peak). To the northwest of the Huirisan Pine Tree Recreational Forest is Saindae. Legend goes that four generals used to play there. Indeed, there is a cliff (140m in x_height) just below Saindae where they were believed to do chin-ups. Naturally, people call the area Teokgeolijang (Chin-Up Spot). Traces of Munsusa Temple still remain below Munsubong although it was said to have been destroyed by a huge number of bedbugs. 500m from Munsubong to the south, horse riding trails of the four generals are dotted along the ridge; Malttongbawi (Horse Dung Rock), resembling horse droppings, is 500m from the peak to the southeast.Below Munsubong are four large peaks where the four generals lived and 100 small rocks beneath them that were home to low ranking men commanded by the generals. Because of their unique shapes, those rocks form a scenic sight while hiking in Huirisan.
