Designated as a natural monument, Gosu Cave is a limestone cave situated in Danyang-gun. This extensive cave is 1,300 meters deep, and is well known for its beauty. The name Gosu comes from the fact that in the past, the area was filled with thickets of tall grass. Rough stone instruments were excavated at the cave entrance, which revealed that this area was home to prehistoric human beings.Inside Gosu Cave, the temperature remains around 15℃ throughout the year. There are reportedly about 25 different kinds of animal life inhabiting within the cave. Some of the rocks resemble animals or human figures, such as Lion Rock, Octopus Rock, Eagle Rock, and even the Virgin Mary Rock. About 120 various shapes of stalactites and stalagmites found here are valuable remains to researchers and scholars. As the cave is colder than most would expect, and you have to often move along holding onto metal railings, it is highly recommended that you wear warm gloves in the winter.

Situated to the east of Jeju Port, Sarabong is a main Oreum (Jeju dialect for “a small volcanic mountain”) that separates Jeju City from the sea. From the top of Sarabong, visitors can see the ocean to the north and magnificent Hallasan Mountain to the south. Time your hike to reach the top in the late afternoon to catch the reddish glow of the sunset glittering off the ocean.Resembling a horseshoe and adorned with lush nut pine trees, Sarabong is a parasitic volcano with numerous scoria (macrovesicular volcanic rocks). Nearby Sarabong Park has numerous fitness facilities and is a favorite among visitors who enjoy taking walks. At the peak of Sarabong is Mangyangjeong Pavilion. Designated as Jeju Monument No.23, Bongsudae (a fire signal site that was once used to send warnings to other areas) is located in the north of Sarabong and has been preserved in its original form; to the north of Bongsudae is Sarasa Temple (aka Taegojong) overlooking the sea. The manned lighthouse Sanji, the first of its kind on Jeju Island, sits on the cliff near Sarasa Temple. 

Bunjae Artpia first opened its doors at Jeju’s Bunjae Artpia in July of 1992, and is now the world’s largest botanical garden with a total landscape of approximately 39,700m². This garden is rich with maple trees, wisterias and pine trees that are between 30 to 300 years old. Roughly 100 rare species of trees can also be found in the garden. The garden possesses approximately 1,700 trees, and also boasts 100,000 of its Jeju wild flowers, orchids, and other various garden trees and plants which collectively form a unique scenic harmony, Bunjae Artpia is visited by approximately 300,000 people annually, and remains a popular tour site for world public figures such as China’s Head of State Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao, Japan’s former Prime Minister Nakasone, and more.The rich variety of trees planted on the 39,700m² landscape represents 700 years of Korea’s botanical history. The 100-year-old indigenous Jeju Hwangpi elm tree and a 300-year-old yew tree are the main highlights of Bunjae Artpia. Jeju’s characteristic stonewalls and ponds along with stone bridges, and artificial waterfalls all add beautifully to the richness of Bunjae Artpia’s scenery.Subsidiary facilities include a large Korean restaurant, Yooyeon, which seats 202 persons and overlooks Bunjae Artpia. The restaurant is opened all year round from 11AM – 2PM, and offers a lunch buffet. The menu includes Jeju’s specialties such as braised mackerels (godeungeo-jorim), spicy pan-fried pork and vegetables (jeyuk-bokkeum), and numerous side dishes.

From Gangnam to various major cities in the nation, a new express train known as SRT (Super Rapid Train) was introduced in December 9, 2016. Presently, the SRT offers train services that depart from Suseo Station in Seoul to Busan and Mokpo Station.  

Byeonsan Beach along with Daecheon Beach and Manripo Beach, is one of the three most popular beaches on the west coast of Korea. Byeonsan Beach is known for its white sand beach and fir trees. Since the water is tranquil and not very deep, this beach is a favorite summer vacationing spot for over a million people every year. What really draws the crowds to this shore is its 2km-long white sand beach and Bangpungrim, the windbreaker fir forest. The low tide lets the white sand beach extend out so far that you would have to walk a good 30 minutes to reach the end. During the summer, the Bangpungrim provides cool shade, and during the winter, acts as a buffer against the cold wind. The beach looks especially beautiful during low tide.You can taste the fresh fruits and vegetables that are produced in the surrounding mountain areas. You can also have fresh seafood from the nearby fishing villages. The only drawback of Byeonsan Beach is that accommodations are limited and you might be better off staying in the neighboring town of Gyeokpohang.

The Haegang Ceramics Museum (해강도자미술관) is Korea’s first museum dedicated to ceramics. It displays beautiful ceramic works, the very essence of traditional Korean art, including the celebrated celadon porcelain, as well as punch’ong ware and white porcelain. The main building, which is a combination of Eastern and Western architecture, offers something to see in and of itself. The museum was founded by the late Yu Geun-hyeong (pen name Haegang) and his son Yu Gwang-yeol (pen name Haegang) in the spring of 1990; it fosters the inherited traditions of Korean ceramics culture and strives to develop it further. In addition to exhibiting and preserving traditional ceramics, the museum is engaged in various academic activities, and publishes relevant materials as well. It contributes to cultural preservation and development by educating Korea’s youth and public about ceramics. As of now, it has become an attached gallery to an international university.

Located 1 km away from Gyeongpodae, Gyeongpo Beach is a sand bank formed between Gyeongpo Lake and the ocean. This beautiful beach extends to a length of 6 km and is covered with fine sand. It is a very well-known tourist attraction within Korea: a flawless combination of nature and cultural relics.Gyeongpo Beach is famous for its picturesque sunrise and tranquil moonrise. There are other nearby attractions in the area, like the pine forest (4 km) and wild roses, which grow in various areas around the beach. Those who enjoy ocean fishing can take a boat to the mall rocks just off the beach. There is an endless line of tourists, who come to visit the ancient buildings with their incredible scenery, like Gyeongpodae and Ojukheon.In the spring, the Festival of Cherry Blossoms is held at the entrance to Gyeongpo Beach and in the summer, the Beach Festival and other various cultural events are held. Pacific Land, located within the complex of Jungmun Resort, the facility offers three performances upon admission including dolphin show, sea lion show and monkey show. Eagle Valley Ski Resort (Formerly Sajo Resort) at the top of Suanbo’s Hwangsan Valley was the only combined hot springs and ski resort until construction of other hot springs/ski resorts in 1995. The resort prides itself in making safety a priority and has ski officials (who have health and safety certification) patrolling the slopes. Other major draws of the resorts are its famed hot springs and its convenient location.
