Opened in 1927 on Uiju Boulevard, Noryangjin is one of Korea's largest seafood markets. The vibrant, abundant year-round market is connected to Noryangjin Station by a bridge.
Over 830 seafood items are available for wholesale and retail purchases. Main items include clams, shrimp, blue crabs, octopuses, sea cucumbers, halibuts, and snappers.
Visitors can purchase fresh seafood and get it sliced into sashimi at one of the restaurants in the market. Or, they can enjoy maeuntang (spicy fish stew), sushi, roasted fish, and fried food there. The Gingko tree-lined street (Sinsadong Garosu-gil) that runs from Sinsa Station (Subway Line 3) to Hyeondae High School is a popular, upscale street in Seoul. The street (also known as ‘artists' street’) has an eccentric flair thanks to its variety of charmingly decorated coffee shops, and designer stores. Garosu-gil is particularly popular in autumn when the golden Gingko leaves begin to fall.
Seoul Tower opened to the public on October 15, 1980 and has since become a major tourist attraction. The 236.7m tower sits atop Namsan Mountain (243m). The observatory offers panoramic views of Seoul and the surrounding areas.
Thirty years and countless visitors later, the structure was renamed ‘N Seoul Tower.’ The letter ‘N’ stands for the tower’s ‘new’ look, which resulted from a 15 billion won remodeling project in December 2005. With the new lighting system and changes to the tower’s overall color scheme, event coordinators can now decorate the tower for the season or events.
Visitors are encouraged to try the N Grill, Western-style revolving restaurant (one rotation every 48 minutes) and the Sky Restroom (an artfully decorated space). Both offer breathtaking views of the cityscape.
Surrounded by Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace and Jongmyo Shrine, Bukchon Hanok Village is home to hundreds of traditional houses called 'hanok' that date back to the Joseon Dynasty. The name, 'Bukchon,' which literally translates to 'northern village,' came about as the neighborhoods that the village lies north of the two significant Seoul landmarks, Cheonggyecheon Stream and Jongno. Today, many of these hanoks operate as cultural centers, guesthouses, restaurants and tea houses, providing visitors an opportunity to experience, learn and immerse in Korean traditional culture.
Seoul Station is the gateway to Seoul, the capital city of Republic of Korea. It is a terminus for all of the Gyeongbu line (Seoul-Busan) KTX (Korea Train Express) trains as well as Saemaul, Mugunghwa and Nooriro (eco-friendly electric train) trains. It is also connected to Incheon International Airport by AREX (Airport Express).
Seoul Station has the highest number of passengers in Korea, with a daily average of 100,000 passengers going in and out of the train station complex, which includes the new building completed in 2003. Moreover, the nearby Galleria Department Store and Lotte Mart Discount Store add to the station's attraction.
