Located at the foot of Bukhansan Mountain, the National Cemetery for the April 19th Revolution was established in memory of the 224 people who passed away during the April 19th Revolution in 1960. In the cemetery (135,901m²) are a memorial hall (1,652.9m²) and a traditional wooden structure (330.58m²) that houses the grave of historic figure, Yu Yeongbong. At the cemetery is a pond surrounded by sculptures such as the ‘Symbolic Door,’ ‘Roots of Democracy,’ and ‘Sparks of Justice’ and a memorial tower bearing an inscription for the brave patriots who lost their lives during the revolution. The grove of pine, juniper, yew, and maple trees along with the well-kept hiking path serve as a natural addition to the overwhelming ambience of peace and serenity. In May, many people come just to take in the glorious scene of the sunset over Bukhan Mountain.

Yongso Falls is a 6-meter high waterfall located in Yeongwol-eup Yeonha-ri. According to legend, the Yongso Falls was the dwelling place of a magical beast, the Imugi, before he transformed into a dragon and flew up into the heavens. Waters cascade from the falls and clear valley streams flow nearby, a refreshing experience for all who venture here. In the summer, the icy cold valley streams flow through verdant, leafy forests and in autumn the entire area is decked in crimson foliage. The striking natural beauty of Yongso Falls ensures that even these days it is a magical place to visit.

Mukho Port was opened on August 11, 1941 and has been a major port for fishing and trading (mainly, coal). Established on June 8, 1963, Mukho Lighthouse has been a guardian of ships and boats ever since. Located 67m up the slopes of Mt. Dongmun, Mukho Lighthouse (12m in x_height) is a white and circular concrete structure with two floors. It is surrounded by a cozy park where forsythias blossom in spring and visitors can overlook the sea. The park is home to the Maritime Fishing Exhibition Hall, where visitors can learn about the history of fishing in the area. The lighthouse and its surrounding area are full of quiet and comfortable spots to relax and enjoy the scenery. Because of its location (on the highest point of Mukho beach), the lighthouse is absolutely crucial to the safety of ships and boats coming into the port. Buljonggeori Road, where a huge bronze Buddhist temple bell sculpture is located, is lined with 23,000 blocks engraved with the names of foreigners. The colorful blocks on the ground consist not only of diverse names of international tourists, but also include the names of renowned Korean celebrities such as Jeon Ji-hyeon, f(x)’s Krystal Jung, 4Minute, Kara and other popular Korean stars.

The Yangjaecheon stream (15.6km long) is one of the tributaries of the Hangang River, originating from Cheonggyeosan and Gwanaksan mountains and flowing through the Gwacheon region to Gangnam. The small road and path that run from Dogok-dong to Daechi-dong along Yangjaecheon Stream is known as the ‘Yangjaecheon Stream Gil’.The Trail is the perfect place to take a drive since the road is lined with around 830 stately metasequoia trees. The walking path that runs along the banks of the stream (known as the ‘streetlight walk’) is a particularly popular date spot, since the trees backlit by the streetlights provide a wonderfully romantic atmosphere. The ‘Yangjaecheon Stream Trail’ area is famous as well for its bike course that runs all the way from Gwacheon to Gangnam.

The Donggang River flows through the Gangwon-do district, and is a tributary to the South Hangang River. The Donggang River spans an area of 60km from Jeongseon to Yeongwol. The Donggang River is a well-preserved river, left untouched due to the strong current of the waters and the rugged geography of the mountains. The Donggang River follows a snaky path splitting the chiseled cliffs surrounding it. Many tourists visit the area to see rare animals such as otters, Mandarin ducks, and Chinese scops owls and so on. Donggang River is also famous for white-water rafting.

The primary attraction on the coastal road is the shore line of Dongmak Beach connecting Janghwa-ri in the town of Hwado-myeon (located south of Ganghwado Island) with Dongmak-ri. Visitors can comfortably enjoy the sunset after parking their cars on the roadside or in the parking lot of a nearby restaurant. Another great spot to enjoy the sunset is the high ground of Buno-ri. In Seokmodo Island, the best spots to enjoy the sunset are Minmeoru Beach and Janggu Neomeo Port. The beach of the island has a bow-like shape, and when the tide ebbs, a vast foreshore appears with all kinds of sea animals such as clams, crabs, trumpet shells, corb shells and more, making the island an excellent spot for children.>> Click to check out the tide time
