Seorak Special Tourist Zone is a vast zone included in 3 administrative districts, encompassing the entirety of Seoraksan Mountain. In this zone, visitors have various ways to enjoy Seoraksan Mountain and the natural environment of the East Sea region. Sokcho, which occupies the largest area in the zone, comes first when talking about Seoraksan National Park. Tourists can appreciate the picturesque scenery of the sea and coastal lakes as well as the mountain scenery of Seoraksan Mountain. Hikers can climb the mountain or ride a cable car. Sokcho beach is a hot spot that attracts young people who fill the place with energy and life all through the summer. Abai Village, which appeared in several TV dramas for its unique atmosphere, and Sokcho Jungang Market offer local specialties, such as abai sundae (Korean sausage) and dak-gangjeong (fried chicken nuggets coated in a sweet and sour sauce). Goseong, which is bordered by Seoraksan Mountain and Geumgangsan Mountain, is part of the Northern Limit Line (NLL) that offers a unpolluted, beautiful landscape around the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Hwajinpo Beach near Hwajinpo Lake, which is a lagoon, and Songjiho Beach near Songjiho Lake are the best places to spend a peaceful vacation. At Hwajinpo Lake, tourists can visit the summer houses used by the first South Korean President Lee Seung-man and the former North Korean leader Kim Il-seong before the division of the Korean Peninsula. Lastly, although it is a relatively small part of Seorak Special Tourist Zone, Yangyang has resources for mountain tourism and maritime culture, such as Seoraksan National Park and Naksan Provincial Park. Naksan Beach, Naksansa Temple and Hajodae are popular tourist sites. Baramsae Village Picnic Garden in Pyeongtaek is a special eco-park where visitors can enjoy a picnic in a natural setting. The park features wooden walking paths around ponds and marshes, as well as a sand playground, and is decorated throughout with sotdae (wooden bird poles). The mirror pond is particularly beautiful, reflecting the sky, reeds, and birds overhead.

Located Hwasun-ri, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Marine Park is the first national whale experience site with 2 above-ground floors and 1 basement level. It is comprised of a 3D photo zone on the first basement level, an indoor dolphin experience site on the first floor, and children’s aquarium that exhibits 100 species of fish local to the Jeju region on the second floor. Activity programs include feeding dolphins, experiencing being a dolphin trainer, dolphin swimming and snorkeling, diving with dolphins and prenatal education with dolphins. Marine Park participates in ocean animal transportation, as well as rescue and leading trainer business.

The name Nurimaru APEC House is created by combining the Korean words nuri (“world”) and maru (“summit”), and “APEC House,” which refers to an APEC conference hall. Jeodonghang Port is the biggest port in Ulleung-gun where most of squid fishing and related process take place. “Jeodongeohwa,” referring to the luring lights from the boats for squid fishing is one of the famous “8 Major Beauties” of Ulleungdo Island. Chotdaebawi Rock, sitting next to port sea wall, has a sad legend about a daughter who died from grievance when her father never came back from fishing. Now, the port has a large fish market.

One of the most well known sites to rafting maniacs is the Geumdang Valley of Pyeongchanggang River. It is a 5km course along Mt. Geumdangsan and Mt. Geomunsan from the Deungmaeji Village, which is at the upper stream, to Baegam-dong. The current of water is strong enough from the beginning that one does not necessarily have to row, and the water volume is high. The launching point of a proper Geumdang rafting course is from where you can see Mt. Geumdangsan rising behind the riverside, and finish at Baegam-dong. The water is clean and there are sandbanks sporadically, which are adequate for taking breaks. The water stream of Geumdang Valley joins with that of Pyeongchanggang River past Gaesuri. Pyeongchanggang River is a perfect fishing site for Mandarin fish, Korean piscivorous chubs, and Daces.
