Munsusa Temple

Munsusa Temple, located in Hwangsan-dong, Gimje-si, is a branch temple of Geumsansa Temple. The temple is located in the heart of nature atop Bonghwangsan Mountain (alt. 100m), which is surrounded by the seemingly endless Mangyeong Plains. The temple was built by the great monk Hyedeok Seonsa in the 25th year of King Mu of Baekje after he was visited in his dreams by Munsu Bosal (a Buddhist Saint). It was named ‘Munsu’ after ‘Munsugol,’ the original name of the neighborhood in which the temple is located. In front of the temple stands an ancient zelkova tree whose giant girth measures well over 5m. The tree, which is called ‘Gwimok’ (meaning ‘holy, miraculous tree’), was recently designated a specially protected tree and is now the focus of preservation efforts. Every Jan 14th (according to the Lunar calendar), the Gimje Local Government holds a sacred ritual for the tree while the temple holds a ritual to honor the mountain spirit.

Boryeong Beach Special Tourist Zone

The Boryeong Beach Special Tourist Zone consists of three major attractions: Daecheon Beach, Muchangpo Beach and Jukdo Island. The 3.5-kilometer-long, 100-meter-wide Daecheon Beach is known for its annual Boryeong Mud Festival, which attracts about 2 million domestic and international tourists for its mud festivities. The soft, white sand and lush pine trees also make this an idyllic beach to visit. Various accommodations can easily be found here since the area has been a popular tourist destination for quite some time. Located south of Daecheon Beach, Muchangpo Beach is where you can witness a sea-parting phenomenon in the summer. The 1.5-kilometer “Mystic Sea Road” between Muchangpo Beach and Seokdaedo Island reveals itself when the sea levels go down due to the difference in the ebb and flow of the tides. During the sea parting, visitors will be able to catch clams, crabs and shellfish. The beach also offers a breathtaking view of the sunset. Jukdo Island is located midway between Daecheon Beach and Muchangpo Beach. This unpopulated fishing island is known for its dense groves of bamboo trees. The waters in front of the island are clean and full of fish, drawing a large number of visitors for sea fishing. Jeodong Port

Jeodonghang Port is the biggest port in Ulleung-gun where most of squid fishing and related process take place. “Jeodongeohwa,” referring to the luring lights from the boats for squid fishing is one of the famous “8 Major Beauties” of Ulleungdo Island. Chotdaebawi Rock, sitting next to port sea wall, has a sad legend about a daughter who died from grievance when her father never came back from fishing. Now, the port has a large fish market.

Yeonjabong Peak

Located close to Munpilbong Peak, Yeonjabong Peak is named for its resemblance to the tip of a brush. Legend has it that writers who visit the peak will receive inspiration and become famous. Geumdang Valley Rafting
Gangwon-do(Pyeongchang-gun)

One of the most well known sites to rafting maniacs is the Geumdang Valley of Pyeongchanggang River. It is a 5km course along Mt. Geumdangsan and Mt. Geomunsan from the Deungmaeji Village, which is at the upper stream, to Baegam-dong. The current of water is strong enough from the beginning that one does not necessarily have to row, and the water volume is high. The launching point of a proper Geumdang rafting course is from where you can see Mt. Geumdangsan rising behind the riverside, and finish at Baegam-dong. The water is clean and there are sandbanks sporadically, which are adequate for taking breaks. The water stream of Geumdang Valley joins with that of Pyeongchanggang River past Gaesuri. Pyeongchanggang River is a perfect fishing site for Mandarin fish, Korean piscivorous chubs, and Daces.

Collectively, it means “a house where the world summits gather together for an APEC meeting.” Located on Dongbaekseom Island, which is noted for its beautiful, natural landscape accented by dense camellia and pine trees, Nurimaru APEC House has been used as a memorial hall and a prestigious international conference hall since the APEC summit meeting. Nurimaru, a 3-story building, is a modernistic expression of “jeongja,” a pavilion in traditional Korean architectural style. Its roof shape symbolizes the ridgeline of Dongbaekseom Island. Its interior design is a visual display of Korea’s creative traditional culture. The terrace, which has a Korean wooden floor concept, towers over Oryukdo Island, Gwangan Bridge and Dallmaji Hill. Located near Haeundae Beach, it not only offers a spectacular view of the beach, but also has the appearance of a reputable international conference hall featuring both modern and natural beauty.

Banghwadong Natural Recreation Forest

Banghwadong Natural Recreational Forest is located at the foot of Jangansan Mountain. The mountain trail from Deoksanyongso Pond leading to Banghwadong Valley features nature learning centers and adventure games facilities. The clean valley is lined with oddly shaped cliffs, shrubs and trees, which all combine into a splendid view. The forest is situated at a highland more than 500 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by mountains that are over a thousand meters high above sea level, so the temperature is low and the water at the valley is cool even in the summer. There are log cabins, group accommodation facilities, and training halls by the valley to accommodate group visits, conferences, gatherings and seminars. There are also video rooms, broadcast facilities, and restaurants. The group accommodation facilities offer eight rooms for up to eight persons, eight rooms for up to six persons, and there are four 12-person log cabins.
