Jongno is home to a number of famous haejangguk restaurants, and Cheongjinok (청진옥) is considered the forerunner among them. Opened in 1937, the restaurant has been run by three generations of the same family. Beef bones are simmered for more than 24 hours to make a rich broth, and soybean paste is added to neutralize the meaty odor. Ingredients added to the broth include various vegetables, clotted beef blood, beef intestines, and rice. Always crowded, Cheongjinok is open 24 hours a day.

Hanyang Jokbal is one of the most famous restaurants on the street, which is well known for jokbal. The most famous dish at the restaurant is ‘Nangchae Jokbal’. This cold pigs’ feet dish is a specialty of Nampodong Food Street, but is hard to find in other parts of Korea. The combination of steamed pig feet, fresh cucumber, and jellyfish mixed with mustard sauce is a must-try food for visitors to Busan.

Yetchatjip is a famous teahouse that has also been used as a movie filming set. It is a great place to stop by for a cup of natural traditional Korean tea, or the traditional summer treat patbingsu, made with the old way with shaved ice and homemade red bean topping.


Seoul(Yongsan-gu) , Itaewon・Yongsan

Usmania is a Pakistani restaurant located in Itaewon. The restaurant imports all its ingredients from Pakistan (except for its meats and vegetables) in order to make the dishes as authentic as possible. Dishes are cooked in a tandoor, a clay oven used in just about every household in Pakistan.

Hannam-dong Rose Bakery is located on the first floor of the Comme des Garcons store, a world famous avant-garde brand launched by Cheil Industries.Rose Bakery is a franchise branch of the French organic bakery, All Day Brunch Bakery. Korea is the third location to open following London and Paris. Rose Bakery is more than just a place to buy bread. Visitors can enjoy simple but enjoyable European-style meals, deserts and beverages made from fresh ingredients just as in the Paris shop.Customers are greeted with a large kitchen immediately upon entry. Located in Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, Tombola is an Italian restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and rustic cuisine. The restaurant’s relaxed, yet vibrant atmosphere makes for an ambience that is friendly, but at the same time exotic. Diners can enjoy excellent Italian home-cooked dishes like pizza and pasta at affordable prices, making this particular eatery incredibly popular (reservations strongly recommended!). The most popular menu item is the gratin that comes slathered with cheese.


Seoul(Jung-gu) , Euljiro・Chungmuro・Namsan

Gassra (est. 2000) is a Japanese restaurant in Myeongdong that turns into a Japanese Izakaya at night, giving customers a chance to enjoy fresh sashimi, meat dishes, and sake. Though the lunch menu consists only of Hiraekatsu (tenderloin cutlet), Donkatsu (pork cutlet), and Koroke, there is usually a long line that reaches all the way out the door.One of Gassra’s claims to fame is that it is one of the only places in Korea that serves Wolgyegwan refined rice wine. Gassra is also praised as one of the best places to get a little taste of Japan in Korea. Some even say that the udon and noodles served here are better than many found in Japan, which also helps explain the extreme popularity of the restaurant.A main specialty of the restaurant (particularly at lunch) is its fried pork cutlet. Though fried pork cutlets are typically considered to be fairly greasy, the Japanese Hiraekatsu and Koroke served at the restaurant have a clean aftertaste and are paired with a mouth-watering soup and salad.

Fatum is a café selling coffee and wine which is famous for its nice view of the surrounding scenery of Samcheong-dong. Each floor has a different interior design, including a outdoor viewing areas on the fifth floor and inside on the third and fourth floors. Not only beverages, but also side dishes such as salads offering unusual tastes like mushroom and small octopus are served. As for subsidiary facilities, a piano located on the fourth floor is available for anyone to play and an outdoor terrace provides an area to smoke while enjoying the view of Samcheong-dong.
