Jirye Arts Village

Jirye Arts Village is a great place to have a unique experience. Every month there are events such as making rice cake or kimchi and you can stay in traditional Korean houses. Jirye Arts Village is a village with Jisan Seodang (Cultural Asset No. 49), Jichonjongtaek (Cultural Asset No. 44), and Jichonjecheong (Cultural Asset No. 46), which were moved from the Imha Dam area because of the possibility of being flooded.  Jisan Seodang was established in 1800, the 24th year under the reign of King Jeongjo (reign 1752~1800) in remembrance of the achievements of Kim Bang-Geol, as a place for the future generations to study in. Jichonjongtaek is the head house of Kim Bang-Geol’s Family. Established in 1712 at his own request, Jichonjecheong was a shrine where sacrificial rites were held, which has been used as an auditorium.  Beyond the tile-roofed houses, low mountains surround Jirye Arts Village, and there is a lake down from the village. If you pass the tall gate there is a large square and straight ahead is the main building, the schoolhouse on the right and a shrine on the left hill.  Although the village is 350 years old, there are houses with rooms that are heated with wood. Because the village has preserved the old customs with small details, it is a great place to experience and understand Korean traditional culture.  Jirye Arts Village is a cultural inquiry spot for foreigners, a creative space for the artists to work, and is also used as a conference space. Juwangsan Spa Tourist Hotel

Suaedang House
Gyeongsangbuk-do(Andong-si)

This hanok was built by Ryu Jin-geol, also known by his pen name Suae, in 1939. It is located beside the head household of the Sugok Clan who were part of the Jeonju Ryu family. When you enter the lofty, 5-kan*-high gate, you will find 3 buildings that measure 29 kans in total. Suaedang House has a gabled-roof, and is composed of a 7-by-2-kan residential area, and a 10-kan shed, which are situated together in a ㄱ-shape. The hanok was used as an ancestral memorial hall, and later designated as the 56th Cultural Relic of Gyeongsangbuk-do. It has been well preserved, as it was built with sturdy pine usually found in the Chunyang region. The patterns on the lattice doors have peculiar shapes, and the house as a whole faithfully embodies the architectural technique of the late Joseon Dynasty. House of Chiam
Gyeongsangbuk-do(Andong-si)

This is the old house of Lee Man-hyeon, also known by his pen name Chiam. He served as a town chief and a high-ranking court official during the reign of King Gojong of the Joseon Dynasty. He is also the 11th generation descendant of the great scholar Lee Hwang, also known as Toegye.  The hanok was designated as the 11th Folk Relic of Gyeongsangbuk-do. It was originally located in Dosan-myeon Wonchon-ri, but moved to the current location as the original site was flooded due to the construction of the Andong Dam in 1976. The house is composed of a square-shaped, tile-roofed main building that measures 22 kans*, a 5-kan lofty front gate, and outer quarters. The main building consists of the anchae (women's quarters) and the elevated sarangchae (men's quarters). Imcheonggak House
Gyeongsangbuk-do(Andong-si)

Each of the buildings of Imcheonggak is built at a slightly different elevation on Yeongnamsan Mountain, providing each room with plenty of sunlight. The 7 guestrooms vary in size (the largest sleeping up to six people) and are located in different sections of the guesthouse grounds. The large room in the main building has a private bathroom and provides convenient access to the yard. The guesthouse, built with space efficiency in mind, is comprised of five big and small yards. As you pass through the main gate, you’ll see the main building to the left and a pavilion and pond to the right, just past the garden wall. Rising up from beside the pond is a small hill on top of which perches a small shrine.
