Union Star Bowling Alley

A quick walk from exit 4 of Seongsu Station, visitors in Seongsu-dong will be able to find Union Star Bowling Club. Located on the basement of a red-brick building, the venue is often visited by a number of Hallyu stars including Kim Soo-hyun (who was recently on Infinity Challenge to test his bowling skills), G-Dragon and the members of former girl-group 2NE1. Bowling pins signed by the Hallyu stars are proudly displayed throughout the venue. A unique aspect of Union Star Bowling Club is that it is divided into two floors. The first basement floor is Rock Bowling Alley featuring ten lanes. Dimly lit with pink and blue florescent lights, it functions as a bowling-pub serving a wide selection of domestic and imported beer. Club music gets the energy going while darts and video games are available for those waiting for their turn. The second basement floor is General Bowling Alley offering twelve lanes. Opening from 11am, the whole floor is brightly lit and modestly decorated. Visitors to the Union Star Bowling Club should ask about the Red Pin Game event: anyone who scores a strike when a red pin appears as the head pin will receive a free bottle of beer.

Having been featured in numerous Korean TV shows, the most popular dishes on the menu include the signature beef noodle soup, bibim guksu (spicy cold noodles) and bibimbap (mixed rice bowl). During dinner service, gopchang jeongol (beef tripe stew) is often paired with soju (distilled rice liquor). Rice stir-fried with vegetables in the same pot makes for the perfect finale for a laid-back dining experience. Please note that there is usually a long wait during lunch and dinner hours.

Tomorrow With You is a K-drama about Yoo So-joon (played by Lee Je-hoon), a CEO of a real estate company, who travels through time via subway. While traveling back and forth in time, Yoo realizes that his future is gloomy. In order to change his fate for the better, he decides to marry Song Ma-rin (played by Shin Min-a), a perky photographer. Café Comma located in Donggyo-dong is one of the locations featured in the K-drama, where Song nervously waited for Yoo. Run by famed publisher Munhak Dongne, the café offers grand-scale bookshelves containing more than 5,000 books. It is comprised of two floors: the 1st floor featuring large glass windows and the second floor providing a cozy, attic-like atmosphere. Café Comma opens at 7:30 daily. From 7:40 until 11:00 on weekdays, all drinks are offered at half the regular price.

Midnight in Seoul

Nicole Jung, Amber Liu and Jo Kwon do not venture into a grocery store to have their daily cereal fix. Instead, they head themselves to Midnight in Seoul, Korea’s very first cereal café. The decor of the café, complete with electric pink walls and neatly stacked cereal boxes, has been featured on the social media accounts of many celebs. Initially opened by actor and singer Yoon Kye-sang and his artist friends, Midnight in Seoul recently changed ownership. K-pop fans will be familiar with the new owner of Midnight in Seoul- the singer Jo Kwon from the K-pop group 2AM. As for the menu items, over 40 different types of cereals and a wide variety of toppings including nuts, fruits, marshmallows and wine gums (what are wine gums? Is that the correct term?) are available. Choosing a cereal can be tricky but the friendly wait-staff is always ready to provide menu recommendations.

1890 Namsangol Night Market

Travel Back in Time to 1890! Visit the 1890 Namsangol Night Market to experience what life was like in the year 1890! This special event will run every weekend at Namsangol Hanok Village from June 3rd through Oct. 28th, 2017. The night market will feature a traditional layout, much like what would have been used during the Joseon Dynasty, but there will be fun modern touches to enjoy as well.  Visitors can enjoy activities and events that blend the traditional with the modern; that fuse East and West. There will be traditional games competitions, traditional music performances, and traditional clothing fashion shows, all featuring foreign nationals as performers. There will be a range of interactive events and visitors will also have a chance to try traditional Persian food. Jang Suwon, who is the member of Korea’s first-generation boyband idol group, “Sechs Kies,” has transformed himself into a restaurant entrepreneur from being, previously, a singer and actor. Yummy Kampong is a Singaporean seafood restaurant, and they pride themselves on the fact that they use locally caught ingredients for freshness. The most popular dish is the, ‘Kampong Chicken.’ It has a spicy, and yet an explosively sour taste, which stimulates your taste buds. You can sometimes catch Jang Suwon, who helps out in serving at the restaurant, taking photos with his fans at the restaurant.

This is a chicken barbeque restaurant, which is owned by the mother of Block B member, Taeil. Inside the restaurant, there are fan letters and flat cards, which cover up the walls. Unlike other chicken barbeque places, the Korean Barbeque Gaerong Branch restaurant puts the chicken in the fire oven, which makes the plain and simple taste of the chicken stand out more. The popular menu items are: salt-roasted barbeque chicken, which maximized the plain and simple taste of the chicken, and chives no-bone barbeque chicken, which is assorted with chives.
