Namsan Library

Opening its doors in 1922, Namsan Library has enjoyed a long prosperous history. Located in the heart of Seoul, many people visit to search for research materials or to study. The numerous dictionaries or statistics and other reference sources make it the representative library of Korea.Comprised of five levels, the library can accommodate a variety of needs. The first floor is made up of the supervisor's office, exhibit hall, restaurant and snack bar. On the second floor, one can find the Periodical Room, the electronic information room and the audiovisual study room. The lounge and smoking room are also on the second floor. The language room and the reading room are on the third floor. The corner displaying domestic and foreign schoolbooks is especially eye catching. Both the Sociology Study Room and the reading room are on the fourth and fifth floors respectively.If you visit Namsan Library, try to visit the other tourist sites nearby. There are plenty of places see. One such attraction is Namsangol Hanok Village where you can see traditional Korean houses and the traditional lifestyles of the past. Also nearby is Namdaemun Market, the patriot An Jung-Geun Memorial, the National Theater of Korea and the Botanical Gardens. Bongwonsa Temple

Located at the skirt of Ansan Mountain in Bongwon-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, Bongwonsa temple , as the center of Korean Buddhism Taego, is a thousand year old temple with a long history and tradition. In 889 (3rd year of Shilla Jinseong Queen’s reign), Master Dosun founded it at the ground of Yeonhui palace (now Yonsei Univ.) and named it Banyasa temple. It was destroyed during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592, and later in 1748 (24th year of Joseon King Yeongjo’s reign), it was rebuilt and renamed “Bongwonsa” by two Buddhist monks, Chanjeup and Jeungam.“Yeongsanjae”, one of the Buddhist rituals and also the Important Intangible Cultural Properties No. 50, takes place at Bongwonsa on June 6 every year wishing for the world peace and the reunification of North and South Korea. It was designated as one of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009. During Yeongsanjae, visitors can enjoy the Buddhist arts such as Beompae (Buddhist temple music for rituals) and dancing. Also, during summer time, “Seoul Lotus Flower Culture Festival” takes place, so visitors can enjoy the beautiful lotus flowers which are a symbol of Buddhism.

Hwarang

The pride of Daehangno, the musical "Hwarang", is playing at Dahangno Art Madang. Hwarang has been played for more than 800 times in Daehangno and as it reaches its 1,000th performance, the musical numbers will also be rearranged for a more magnificent show and traditional musical instruments will be incorporated into the performances.
