Songdo Convensia A global-standard convention center Songdo Convensia is a state-of-the-art convention center with five spacious floors. Chung-nyeon mall is a cultural attraction where you can enjoy resting, performances and music. 5. 13:20~14:00 Story walk (Korea’s first Hanok cathedral, Yonghung Palace, Koryeo Palace place etc.) ‘Gangwha Story Walk Road’ is a theme-based alley tour product developed to the tourist city of the year 2018. It is a place where you can experience the old history of Gangwha and the modern tourist city together while walking in Korea’s first Hanok cathedral, Yongheung palace, and Goryeo palace place with new and various contents. It is a roof-less museum of Gangwha-do which has a long history and has a travel course to enjoy with a special storyteller. *GANGHWA ANGLICAN CHURCH : The Anglican church was first introduced to Ganghwado in 1890 and English Father Wangrando commenced preaching of the gospel right after he procured a house of residential church in Gapgotni in 1893. Meanwhile, Father Wangrando returned to his country and Father Joma succeedingly assigned to Joseon arriving at Ganghwa in 1896, then he evangelized Kim Maga (Kim Hui jun) in Ganghwaeup, and also opened Yeonghwawon, a nursery house, to take care of many patients in means of western medical techniques. This church building still remains there which was built in a conventional architecture of Korea in 1900. *Yongheunggung Palace (용흥궁) : Yongheunggung Palace is where King Cheoljong (a Joseon Dynasty ruler who reigned from 1849 to 1863) used to live before his ascension to throne. The chief of Ganghwa County, Jeong Gi-se, enlarged the original residence and named it Yongheunggung (meaning palace of the rising dragon) in the 4th year of King Cheoljong’s reign. Its architectural features include a paljak (Korean traditional half-hipped roof) and supporting columns rendered in Jusimpo style, the column brackets placed only on top of the columns. The palace was built in the tradition of dwelling houses such as the Yeongyeongdang and Nakseonjae houses in Changdeokgung Palace, so the palace buildings give off a simple and plain atmosphere. Within the precincts of the palace are a memorial stone and a monument house indicating that the palace used to be the old home of King Cheoljong. *Goryeogung Palace Site : Goryeogung Palace Site on Ganghwado Island is the site of the royal palace where the people of the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392) resisted the Mongolian invasion for 39 years. In the 19th year of his reign, King Gojong moved the capital to Ganghwa on account of its natural and strategic advantages. During the Byeongjahoran (Chinese invasion of Korea) in 1637, the palace was lost by force to the Qing dynasty of China. Later, Joseon Dynasty palace building and Ganghwa Yusubu (Ganghwa governor’s office) buildings existed in the Goryeo palace site but were destroyed by the French army during the Byeonginyangyo (French Campaign against Korea). Nowadays, the only structures that remain are the Dongheon main office (built in 1638) and Ibangcheong administration office (built in 1654). The palace and its subsidiary buildings were restored in 1977. It has historical lessons of the spirit of independence and overcoming national crisis. 6. 14:00~14:30 Café house: 1 free drink (coffee, beverage) With sweet desserts and enough caffeine to clear one’s head, cafés are a must! The basement and the 4th floor are dedicated to military units, on the 1st floor is a souvenir shop which sell souvenirs of North Korea, a restaurant, a management office, a unification desire center, and a relaxation room. On the 2nd floor, there is a high-performance telescope and an exhibition room where you can observe the traces and horrors of war. The Incheon International Airport Traditional Culture Workshops are exhibition areas where traditional Korean culture experiential programs have been prepared for people awaiting flights departing from Korea, or for travelers waiting for connecting flights. Currently, there are two programs available in the exhibition areas, made available for all travelers using the third floor departure area. Participants will be able to learn how to make jewelry boxes out of hanji (traditional Korean paper) or make cell phone straps using traditional sewing techniques that were used to make clothing and accessories. Even if you lack the skilled hands needed for these crafts, anyone can follow the simple instructions provided in English, Japanese, and Chinese, and have fun at the workshops. Aside from these programs, there are special programs that are prepared for visitors every 3 to 4 months, such as drawing traditional patterns, coloring traditional Korean fans, and making small purses by using traditional knotting techniques. You can also take a look at the traditional arts and crafts that are put on display in the exhibition areas as well. There are two traditional culture workshops located at Incheon International Airport in both the east and west wings. The traditional culture workshops and traditional craftworks exhibition are provided free of charge for all interested guests. The craftworks exhibition is located diagonally across from the fourth floor departure area convenience facility, and is open 24 hours a day. Also, if you visit between the hours of 10:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday, English guides will be available for your added convenience.
