Haemieupseong Fortress
Chungcheongnam-do(Seosan-si)

Haemieupseong Fortress (해미읍성), built during the Joseon period, has been preserved almost fully intact. It is one of Korea’s most renowned cultural heritages.This fortress is a historic site in which a supreme commander of the army in Chungcheong-do stayed, and from which the great Admiral Yi Sun-shin worked. Furthermore, as Korea’s largest sacred ground, the site at which nearly 1,000 Roman Catholics were martyred, it was grounds for the Donghak Peasant Revolution and the Catholic Persecution during more modern times. However, a variety of fun and exciting events such as a Barracks Experience Festival and the National Ssireum Championship are held here as well.

Baegam Hot Springs Special Tourist Zone
Gyeongsangbuk-do(Uljin-gun)

At the Baegam Hot Springs Special Tourist Zone, visitors can enjoy both the lush mountain terrain of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range and the magnificent scenery of the East Sea. The hot springs of Baegam are one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region and are visited by travelers from across the nation. The water temperature reaches as high as 53 degrees Celsius and contains various minerals and elements, including a strong alkaline content. This makes the water effective in treating neuralgia, arthritis and apoplexy. Recently, it was reported that the water is also beneficial for those with atopic dermatitis, thereby attracting the elderly and families. Recreational facilities for children are also available. The hot springs are located at the foot of the 1,004-meter-high Baegamsan Mountain. The mountain trails lead to Yeongyang and Bonghwa and are frequented by hikers. Densely covered with pine trees, the mountain also has plenty of deep valleys. Sinseon Valley, where, according to legend a dragon once lived, has an abundance of water flowing in different directions. The Baegam Hot Springs Festival takes place annually in early August. On weekends during the festival period, visitors can enjoy street performances and other programs. In the vicinity are Jukbyeon Port and Hupo Port, which are known for snow crabs, and Mangyangjeong Pavilion and Wolsongjeong Pavilion where one can enjoy a beautiful view of the sea. Jinha Beach

Jinha Beach is located 242km southeast of Ulsan and is a little slice of summer paradise measuring 1km in length and 300m in x_width. Like most beaches along Namhae (the South Sea) the waters of Jinha are shallow, warm, and calm, making it a perfect place to go swimming. The deep scent of the surrounding pine trees mixes with the ocean sea breeze and gives the beach an intimate atmosphere despite its relatively large size. Camping is allowed in the pine woods and is free of charge. Simple shower booths and changing rooms are available for the convenience of the visitors. You may also enjoy freshwater river bathing as the water from Hoiyagagn River from Munsusan Mt. flows into the beach area. Near the beach is Ideokdo Island, which consists of two mid-ocean rocks, and Myeongseungdo Island, which can be reached on foot. The latter, in particular, is popular for its beautiful sunset and is famous as a great fishing spot for Dorimi, flatfish, and Ureog. Around 10km away is Ganjeolgot Lighthouse, which is in operation 24/7.

Yeongchwisan Mountain

Yeongchwisan Mountain is not very tall, rising just 510 meters above sea level, but the mountain has long been deemed as a spiritual guardian of the Yeosu peninsula. During the old days, people held rituals for rain or offered wishful prayers here. Geumseongdae and Dosolam Hermitage are two Buddhist places of worship on the mountain. As Yeongchwisan Mountain is not very tall, taking any hiking course will lead you to the peak within about four hours. The mountain is a perfect place for family travelers to go hiking. Yeongchwisan Mountain is also widely known as the first place in Korea where azaleas begin to bloom in the spring, and is one of the top three most famous places in Korea for azalea blossoms. In April each year, the azalea festival is held in the mountain. The festival offers a variety of programs including a ritual for the god of the mountain, a writing contest for students, a photo contest, and Miss Azalea beauty pageant. During the festival, visitors can enjoy various events and local foods.
