Jeonju Sikdang is a noted restaurant for Haenam folk cuisine. It was designated by the Korean Traditional Culture Preservation Society after getting many awards, such as special culinary award, and others. The main items on the menu are pyogo-jeongol (mushroom hot pot) and sanchae-jeongsik (set menu with seasoned wild vegetables). The pyogo-jeongol's ingredients are all prepared in house using organic shitake mushrooms, beef, Manila clams, and other seafood and vegetables, giving it a clean and rich taste. The theme of the restaurant, “Enjoying natural dishes in the mountains,” fits perfectly with the taste of their pyogo (mushroom), which carries a excellent taste without the addition of any artificial seasoning. To taste more of the menu, try their dongdongju (traditional Korean liquor), one of their famous items.

Yeosu Airport

Yeosu Airport is the gateway to Yeosu city and the eastern part of Jeollanam-do Province. The airport opened in 1972 when Korean Air (KAL) launched a new air route between Seoul and Yeosu, and the route between Yeosu and Jeju was added in 1977. The travel time for the Seoul-Yeosu route is 1 hour and the Jeju-Yeosu route takes 45 minutes. The airport renovated its runway in 2004 and opened a new passenger building in 2005. As Yeosu is the host city of the 2012 World Expo, the city has plans to continue expanding facilities to provide the most convenient service.

Wibongsa Temple
Jeollabuk-do(Wanju-gun)

Situated in the foothills of Juchulsan Mountain, Wibongsanseong Fortress was constructed over a period of 7 years starting in 1675. The fortress was built as a safe place to keep the portrait of King Taejo, which had been kept at Gyeonggijeon in Jeonju until the Donghak Peasant Revolution broke out and put the portrait in jeopardy. Originally, the Wibongsanseong Fortress measured 16 kilometers long, 4 to 5 meters high, and 3 meters wide with three gates and eight emergency gates. Today, only a section of the fortress wall and the west gate remain. Wibongsa Temple is located past Mujigaemun Gate (Rainbow Gate) and Wibong Village and is a major temple in the Honam region that once oversaw 52 branch temples. Said to be built by Monk Seoam in 604 (the 5th year of King Mu of Baekje), the surviving buildings date back to the Joseon Era. Today, only Bogwangmyeongjeon Hall (Treasure No. 608), Yosa (Provincial Cultural Asset No. 698), and Samseonggak remain. The Baeguigwaneumbosal wall painting in particular is the pride of the temple.

Hwasun Dolmen Site [UNESCO World Heritage]
Jeollanam-do(Hwasun-gun)

The Hwasun Dolmen Site is located near the waterfalls of the mountain pass linking Dogok-myeon of Hyosan-ri and Chunnyang-myeon of Daesin-ri. According to experts, 135 of the 980 stones in Dogok-myeon Hyosan-ri are dolmen. There are also about 100 damaged stone tables that still maintain their original form. What makes the Hwasun dolmens special is that in such a small district there are as many as 596 dolmen, including Korea’s biggest stone table. Acknowledging the importance of the cultural assets, the Hwasun Dolmen Site was registered as World Heritage No. 997 in year 2000 along with Gochang and Ganghwa Dolmens.
