Gangwon-do(Chuncheon-si)

Located in 34, Gangchon-ro, Namsan-myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do, Gangchon Station is one of train stations in Gyeongchun Line. It is situated between Gimyujeong and Baekyang-ri. The metropolitan subway line, Gyeongchun Line, started operating on December 21, 2010 and rapid train used to stop at the station even during weekdays since August 2011. However, the rapid train is no more operating due to the introduction of ITX-Cheongchun Train.

On the way to Haegeumgang Village, one may encounter the fishing village of Dojangpo. On the left side of the village is Dojangpo Wharf, from where one can take a tour ferry to Oedo Island and Haegeumgang River. Looking up from here, one can see a hill covered in grass and overlooking the sea. This is Windy Hill. A growing number visitors come to the place after it was used a filming site for popular Korean dramas such as Eve's Garden (2003, SBS) and Merry- Go-Round (2004, MBC). The name “Windy Hill” was given by those who visited the island and became a fan. Walking toward the hill along the wooden promenade from the wharf, one can see Hakdong Village from a distance.

Eungbongsan Mountain is famed for its forsythia flowers. Each year, it hosts the Eungbongsan Mountain Forsythia Festival, organized by Seongdong-gu and Seongdong Cultural Center. The festival venue is Palgakjeong (Octagonal Pavillion) on the mountain.

There are also many unique dishes in Gangwon-do that will catch your eye or whet your appetite. One delectable item is a dish made with buckwheat (or somtimes with corn flower) noodles, but be careful, as it is called Kotdeungchigi (hit the nose), because people would pull on the noodles too hard when eating and get hit in the nose. In order to experience the full atmosphere of the country market, you must try drinking a bowl of corn makgeolli (Korean wine), a specialty of Gangwon-do, and eating a bowl of Kotdeungchigi noodles while sitting on a mat.To get to the Jeongseon Market, take the Jeongseon 5-Day Market Train from Cheongnyangni Station, departing at 8:10am, for a 4hr ride to Jeongseon Station that arrives at around 12:00pm. Jeongseon Market is a 15min walk from Jeongseon Station.
