Chusa House
Chungcheongnam-do(Yesan-gun)

Chusa Gotaek is the traditional Korean house of the renowned scholar and calligrapher, Chusa (also known as Kim Jeong-Hui). This old house is known to have been constructed by the great-grandfather of Chusa, Kim Han-Sin.The Korean-style house compound (266.11m²) consists of Munganchae (a guesthouse), Soteuldaemun (a high gate), Sarangchae (ㄱ-shaped men's quarters), Anchae (ㅁ-shaped women’s quarters) and a shrine where the remains of Chusa are enshrined. Theㄱ-shaped Sarangchae stretches for one Kan* to the south and 2 Kans to the east and is comprised of two rooms and a Daecheongmaru (living area). The Anchae consists of a six-Kan Daecheongmaru (living area) and two one-Kan rooms.Located on the ground is a tomb where Chusa’s great-grandfather (Kim Han-Sin) and his wife (Hwasun Princess) are buried. Nearby you’ll see a gate that was constructed to commemorate Princess Hwasun’s faithfulness to her husband.If you walk about 600 meters to the north of the old house, you can see a lacebark pine tree, which was designated Natural Monument No. 106. The lacebark pine tree, originally from northern China, is among the few of its kind in Korea. It is said that Chusa snuck the pine across the border from China (formerly, the Qing Dynasty) into the country when he was 25 years old and planted it at the tomb of his great-grandfather. Originally, the tree had three branches, but two were broken and the third branch was damaged. Oseam Temple
Gangwon-do(Inje-gun)

Oseam (오세암), is an annex of the larger Baekdamsa Temple (백담사), it is a small Buddhist temple built in 644 under the reign of Queen Seondeok of the Shilla Dynasty. It is the home of the famous legend that provided inspiration for the production of Oseam the movie, and the animated film. It is a popular meditation venue for Buddhist monks and famous poets, including Siseup Kim and Yongun Han, who are said to have stayed here. It lies against the backdrop of Gwaneumbong Peak and is surrounded by the many scenic tourist attractions of Mt Seorak.

Seosaengpo Waeseong Fortress

Seosaengpo Waeseong Fortress (Seosaengpo Japanese Fortress) is a stone fortress typical of the Japanese style popular in the later part of the 16th century. It was built under the leadership of Japanese General Kato Kiyomasa in 1592-1593 at the beginning of the Imjinwaeran War (Japanese invasion, 1592-1598). The main fortress is located on a mountaintop 200 meters above sea level, a second fortress is halfway down the mountain, and a third fortress is located at the bottom of the mountain. The whole fortress is rectangular shaped. The fortress wall is 6 meters high and slants at an angle of 15 degrees. In 1594, a Buddhist monk named Samyeong-daesa came to Seosaengpo Waeseong Fortress four times to negotiate for peace, but he failed each time. In 1598, the fortress was taken over by Korea with the assistance of General Magwi of the Ming Dynasty. A year later, Changpyodang Shrine was built in honor of the 53 Koreans who died during battles against the Japanese invading forces. However, the shrine was destroyed during the Japanese imperialism period and no trace of it remains. It is possible to tell from Seosaengpo Jinseongdo (a map drawn up in 1872) that the fortress was also partially used by Korean forces.

Sinji Myeongsasimni Beach

There are many beaches having the name Myeongsasimi in Korea. While “Myeongsa” refers to “soft sandy beach,” it has a different meaning in Sinji Myeongsasimni Beach; here, it conveys “echoing beach,” because the sound of silvery sand swept by waves is known for spreading over 4km (“Simni” means “4km” in Korean). Befitting its name, the beach (150m in x_width) stretches over 4km. One of the most exquisite beaches along the South Coast, the beach is also shallow, ideal for family tourists. Bathing in the sand here is believed to be effective for neuralgia, arthritis, skin diseases, and athlete’s foot.

Gongseri Catholic Church

Gongseri Catholic Church is the main Catholic parish, which was built in 1894 on the hill of Gongseri, Inju-myeon that connects Asanman Bay to Sapgyocheon. Early missionaries landed here to begin their work. A common house was used as a church in the early years however, in 1897 a rectory was built and in 1922, the main church was created. This was the first church in Chungcheongnam-do and it was divided in different locations such as Gongju, Anseong, Onyang and Dunpo. The grounds have three graveyards of prosecuted martyrs, 4626 sq.ft. area parish and rectory, retreat house, meeting room as well as beautiful view of the green including an old zelkova tree.

FLYING - Hwarang Wonjeongdae

FLYING - Hwarang Wonjeongdae, a special edition of the original FLYING Silk Road, will be performed at Gyeongju World Culture Expo Park in a special performance hall as one of the events at Silk Road Gyeongju 2015. One of the leading non-verbal directors, Choi Cheolgi, who directed ‘Nanta,’ ‘Jump,’ ‘Bibap,’ and more also created this performance, starting from Gyeongju World Culture Expo in 2011 until now, performing for over 400,000 audience so far and gaining a lot of attention as a local permanent performance. The plot of FLYING - Hwarang Wonjeongdae features a Silla Hwarang, a type of warrior, trying to catch the escaping goblin, Dokkaebi, by teleporting to modern times through a time trap, arriving at Silla High School. The show is comprised of gymnastics, rhythm gymnastics, valley dance, B-boying, circus acts, as well as martial arts from Hwarang in the Silla Dynasty, creating various types of entertainment to watch and providing pleasure by the change of scenery through Silla, China, India, Persia, and Gyeongju.
