Seoul Central Masjid (서울 중앙성원)

Located in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu in Seoul, the Seoul Central Masjid was the first Islamic mosque in Korea. Construction of the mosque began in October 1974 on a piece of land (5,000 square meters) that was donated by the Korean government. Funded by the Islamic countries, the mosque officially opened on May 21, 1976 and now stands proudly halfway between the Hangang River and Namsan Mountain. The first floor of the mosque houses meeting rooms and the office of the Korea Muslim Federation; on the second floor is the men’s musalla (prayer hall) measuring 427 square meters; and on the third floor is the women’s musalla (prayer hall). The Islamic Center, originally a 2-story building (1,362 square meters) attached to the mosque, saw the addition of a third floor on July 20, 1990 thanks to generous funding from the Islamic Development Bank of Saudi Arabia. The Islamic Center now features a madrasah (educational institution for Muslim children), the Islamic Culture Research Institute, and more.

Bonghwasan Mountain (Seoul) (봉화산 (서울))

Bonghwasan Mountain (alt. 160m) in Jungnang-gu, Seoul offers scenic views of Buramsan, Dobongsan, and Namsan mountains. From the mountain, hikers can even see as far as the Yangju area of Gyeonggi-do Province to the north. Officially designated a “neighborhood park” in July 1977, Bonghwasan Mountain has a variety of convenience facilities, not least of which is the beacon tower of Achasan Bongsudae (remolded in 1994) perched on the mountain summit. Also near the summit is Sansingak Shrine, which is the site of the annual Bonghwasan Dodanggut (Intangible Cultural Property of Seoul No. 34), a shamanistic rite performed on the third day of the third lunar month.

Seoul Kimchi Making & Sharing Festival

Seoul Kimchi Making & Sharing Festival is held in the area of Gwanghwamun Square. Registered as one of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Gimjang (preparing kimchi for the winter) has drawn a lot of attention from all over the world. However, the culture of gimjang is slowly disappearing, as Korean culture becomes more globalized. Seoul goverment has planned this festival to revitalize the culture of gimjang, preparing almost 20 programs divided into the 5 sections of sharing, exhibition, hands-on programs, market place and food, and culture for visitors to enjoy the festival to the fullest.

Seoul International Dance Festival

SIDance was created by Seoul Section of the International Dance Council CID UNESCO in 1998 as a proper channel for introducing Korean dance to international stages as well as worldwide trends to the local dance scene. Korean dance had experienced a severe lack of international exchanges, but that has been surmounted, to a certain degree, since the formation of the Seoul Section of the International Dance Council CID-UNESCO in 1996.SIDance stands out among its various activities to promote Korean dance. SIDance, led by LEE, Jong-Ho, the artistic director, has since grown into a dance festival at the international level, marking its 18th anniversary in 2015. SIDance is closely working together with governmental bodies including Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Seoul Metropolitan Government, Korea Foundation, and Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture as well as embassies and official organizations abroad. SIDance has been also elected as a member of AAPAF (Association of Asian Performing Arts Festivals), being recognized of its active engagement with international exchanging activities in the performing arts scene of Asia. SIDance has recently reached its highest point to collaborate a number of joint projects with prominent festivals including Singapore Arts Festival, Festival Montpellier Danse and Festival Internacional Cervantino. SIDance has invested significant efforts in cultural exchange, collaboration, and co-productions in the field of dance, representing the dance scene in Korea to the international stage.

Seoul Yangnyeongsi Herb Medicine Culture Festival

The Herb Medicine Festival has been held every fall since 1995 in Yangnyeongsi (약령시), the largest herbal medicine marketplace in Seoul. The festival celebrates the history and effectiveness of the nation's traditional herb medicine and raises international interest in Seoul’s Yangnyeongsi market.During the festival, a wide variety of events will be held, including activity programs such as an herb slicing contest and writing, cooking, and singing contests. Other highlights on the festival calendar include traditional performances and a taekwondo demonstration. Visitors can also enjoy free herbal tea, food, and rice cakes and will be able to buy a variety of herbs at low prices.Perhaps the most anticipated events of the festival are the free herbal medical diagnoses and treatments, which are on offer for Korean and international visitors. Seoul Christmas Festival

Hosted by Kyunghyang Shinmun, C Channel, Agape Cultural Foundation, Baekseok Arts University and sponsored by Seoul Metropolitan City and Korea Tourism Organization, 2016 Christmas Festival is a Christmas Festival that takes place at Cheonggye Plaza, the center of Cheonggyecheon Stream. Marking its 2nd anniversary of this year, Cheonggyecheon will be entertaining visitors with fancy illuminating Christmas tree theme park and photo zones for 30 days.
