Seoul(Jung-gu)

Arirang offers Korean cuisine with its articulate traditional interior and menus. Most menus are traditionally prepared, along with charcoal grill tables for visitors to cook their own meat. The National Library of Korea is where numerous materials are collected and preserved. It currently holds approximately 4.3 million books and theses, of which roughly two-hundred thousand are collected annually. Art exhibitions are occasionally held in the exhibition room on the first floor. Surrounded by Seocho Park, the scenery outside is beautiful and the atmosphere is very relaxing. If you would like to have fun partaking in other activities, take a ten-minute walk to the Express Bus Terminal nearby. Central City is connected to both a shopping center and theater. You can also go to different provinces from the bus terminal. But it would be nice to visit the library and spend some time reading before going on a trip out of Seoul.At the National Library of Korea, classical concerts are held exclusively for the library users on the last Friday of each month, except in January and August. Anyone who comes to the library can attend the concert for free. The Euro-Asian Philharmonic Orchestra and the famous conductor Geum Nan-Sae perform for the audience. Do not miss this unique opportunity.


Seoul(Yongsan-gu) , Itaewon・Yongsan

Operated by Korean husband and Chinese wife, it offers traditional authentic Chinese dumplings in a small place. Its signature menu, dumpling, passed down to the owner by her grandmother, features different tasty and texture comparing with Korean-style dumpling.      


Seoul(Jongno-gu) , Insadong・Jongnon

Founded and opened by Monk Jeongsan, Sanchon is a vegan-friendly restaurant that mainly serves temple foods. The dishes found here are a results of Kim Yun-sik, who was inspired by the simple, clean and healthy diet that a Buddhist practitioner taught him years ago. Now, being a top authority on vegetarian food in Korea, Kim Yun-sik helped perfect the standard and quality of temple food.  The dishes are made with all natural ingredients such as vegetables and mountain herbs, and are cooked without chemical additives. The actual dishes served vary by season, and in order to meet the tastes of the general public, the restaurant includes "five spices" (garlic, shallots, mountain leeks, etc.), which monks are typically not allowed to eat. Those who would like their food without these ingredients are asked to make their request at least one day prior to visiting.


Seoul(Jongno-gu) , Insadong・Jongnon

Hwanghu Myeongga’s wonderfully healthy samgyetang (chicken ginseng soup) is made by boiling ground grain and over 19 medicinal herbs in one big pot for about 28 hours, giving the soup its unusually deep and rich color. Not just a delicious meal, this samgyetang is packed with natural health benefits thanks to its special mix of medicinal herbs.

Internationally renowned as a Michelin three-star chef, Pierre Gagnaire opened his Seoul restaurant, Pierre Gagnaire à Seoul, on October 1, 2008. This is his fourth restaurant following those restaurants in Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. In fact, he was once ranked first among the 100 top chefs in the world. It offers French cuisine featuring innovative and diverse preparation methods with an added artistic touch.

MESA was the first shopping mall to be built in Namdaemun Market. MESA is a family shopping mall selling goods and providing facilities targeting mostly middle-aged women. The Children’s Wear section on the 3rd floor provides mothers with cradles and rocking chairs for feeding infants, and a diaper changing facility as well. There are also free stroller rentals in the lobby, and each floor offers uniquely designed restrooms. The eighth and ninth floors boast over 50 different restaurants, with food varying from traditional Korean meals to fusion dishes. A restaurant on the 16th floor offers a magnificent view of Namsan, especially at night.

Libuk Sonmandu restaurant is located deep in the alleys behind Seoul City Hall in the Mugyo-dong area. It is famous for Kimchimaribap and Sonmandu (handmade dumplings). Kimchimaribap is rice in a soup of kimchi and ice cubes with various added flavorings that originated in North Korea. This is a refreshing dish for summer. Other items on the menu are Bindaetteok (mung bean pancake) and Mandujeongol (dumpling hot pot).

National Museum of Korean Contemporary History is the first national modern contemporary museum ever opened in Korea and it showcases the nation’s history in a comprehensive and structured way. The museum first opened its door to the public on December 26, 2012. Located in Sejong-daero, Jongno-gu, the building where the museum is currently housed was formerly that of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Its current renovated state has 4 open-run exhibition chambers and 2 themed, rotating exhibit halls. Also inside the building is a seminar room, lecture hall, café, souvenir shop and a rooftop garden.

Located in the cultural and art district of Insa-dong, the Sunbee hotel is an “Innostel”, a new concept of hotels developed by the Seoul City Government.
