Moggoji Guesthouse

Moggoji Guesthouse is a hanok homestay place located in Hyehwa-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. Three generations are presently living in the traditional 100-year-old house. Situated in a residential area, there is little city noise; instead, the accommodation offers the comfort of a private home, the scent of the 100-year-old tree, and a friendly atmosphere. There are four rooms: a room for two with a double bed; a room for three with a single bed and a double-deck bed; a Korean style room for two; and a room for six with two double-deck beds. The kitchen and living room are shared, and there is a bathroom attached to each room. Complimentary breakfast is provided to guests, consisting of toast, sandwiches, cereal, milk, coffee, and juice. In the living room are tools for traditional Korean play such as yut and yut board; traditional Korean wedding costumes are also offered free of charge. Hyehwa Subway Station of Seoul Subway Line 4 is a 10-minute walk away, whereas city center spots such as Myeong-dong, Dongdaemun, Namsan Mountain can be reached within 30 minutes by public transport.

The Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) Nam Seoul annex opened at the old Belgium consulate building on September 2, 2004. The old Belgium consulate building (Historic Site No. 254) was constructed in 1905 and restored in 1983. The building’s classical ionic columns and fireplaces have been kept intact, allowing the museum to serve as a tool for studying classic architecture of the 1900s as well as modern art. The blue-gabled building (measuring 1,569.58㎡) houses classrooms (B1) and exhibition halls and offices (1F-2F). Outside is a sculpture park. The Seoul Museum of Art has two annexes; the Gyeonghuigung annex and the Nam Seoul annex, which is used mainly for planned exhibitions and art education for children.

It was recently renovated to serve as a guesthouse by an architect specializing in traditional Korean houses. He originally used the house as his office but decided to turn it into a guesthouse because the house was too big to be used as an office. Because of this unique history, this traditional Korean house is antique and modern at the same time. The Premium Room named 'Ujeong' is furnished with chandelier, modern furniture, and home appliances and is designed to look like one of the rooms used by a noble family in the 1930s. There are cornelian cherry trees and apricot flowers in the front yard, which is visible from the room through the window. All the corners of the house and even the drain are carefully designed not to harm the design of the house. The guesthouse has two large guestrooms only, making it the perfect choice for those who want a quiet place to stay.
