The Ho-Am Art Museum is located in Yongin inside the grounds of the huge Everland Amusement Park, making it a popular destination for tourists.The museum displays over 15,000 works of art that come from all periods of Korea’s history and date all the way back to the pre-historic age. Around 100 of Korea’s national treasures are on display here, along with Buddhist art, calligraphy, folk paintings, and an excellent collection of ceramics. The exhibitions is spread over two floors and located in a building constructed in the traditional Hanok style.Ho-Am Art Museum also includes a re-creation of a Korean traditional garden, called the Hee Won Garden, which should not be missed. Stonewalls, pavilions, traditional Hanok buildings, and Buddhist statues are scattered amongst glorious flowers and reflected in the lotus pond. After exploring the museum, visitors can relax with a cup of tea in Hee Won Garden’s teahouse. Visitors holding one-day admission passes to Everland, can visit Ho-Am Art Museum and Hee Won garden for free.

National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon [MMCA Gwacheon]

Located in beautiful Gwacheon, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon displays works by Korean and international modern artists, as well as works by contemporary artists currently making waves in the art world. As well as its permanent collection, the museum generally presents several special exhibitions, which run for three to four months. For English information on the special exhibitions, visitors should check the Art Exhibitions section of VisitKorea’s “What’s On This Month” calendar, the link to which can be found on the main page. Most of the exhibitions can be seen free of charge, although some of the major special exhibitions may charge an admission fee. The museum’s six exhibition galleries are spread over three floors, and include a children’s gallery. The museum is conveniently located on the outskirts of Seoul near several other attractions, such as Seoul Grand Park and SeoulLand amusement park, so the area makes for a good day-trip.

Seoul Race Park

Seoul Race Park in Gwacheon is one of the three parks in Korea for thoroughbred flat races. It hosted horse racing games during the 1986 Asian Games and 1988 Summer Olympics (both held in Seoul). Seoul Race Park is equipped with two sand tracks with a 450m-long home stretch, two grandstands named Happy Ville and Lucky Ville that can accommodate up to 35,000 and 42,000 people, respectively, and two stables, which together house close to 1,500 horses. Also, the Park features numerous equine, recreational and convenience facilities.

Panmunjeom (Joint Security Area)

Panmunjeom is located in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), 50 km north of Seoul and 10 km east from the city of Gaeseong, a city which now belongs to North Korea. This area is most notably known for the peace talks that were held here on October 25, 1951 and on July 27, 1953 when the Armistice Agreement was signed. It is now beyond the jurisdiction of both the North and South. The conference center in Panmunjeom is surrounded by the Joint Security Area (JSA) and measures 800 meters in diameter. It is the only portion of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) where North and South Korean forces stand face-to-face. It was used as a filming location of the movie "JSA (Joint Security Area)." It was also the site of military negotiations between North Korea and the United Nations Command (UNC). It has now become one of the most visited tourist sites of the DMZ.

Herb Village

The Herb Village in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi-do Province gives a splendid view of Imjingang River. This beautiful oasis is perfect for a relaxing day out of Seoul with the whole family. Colorful flowers, wooden benches, original statues, and a beautiful landscape decorate the whole space of the garden. One can just take a leisurely walk down the hill towards the river while stopping to smell the herbs every once in a while. If you need some refreshments, there are a couple of restaurants in the garden. If you want to stay overnight, there is beautiful guesthouse that offers comfortable accommodation. The village also has an herb jjimjilbang (Korean sauna) that creates a romantic ambience after sunset with candle lights, and foot baths that use different herbs can be found outside. The village is just a short drive from Seoul and one can enjoy a scenic view of the surroundings along the way.
