Yeongwol Byeolmaro Observatory

Built on the peak of Mt. Bongnaesan (799.8 meters) in Yeongwol, Byeolmaro is Korea’s largest astronomical observatory. The term ‘Byeolmaro’ combines the words ‘byeol’ (star), ‘ma’ (peak) and ‘ro’ (peaceful). Together, they collectively represent the wish to view stars in a clean and peaceful environment.The observatory has a total of 11 telescopes, including the nation’s largest telescope with a diameter of 80 centimeters and 10 supplementary telescopes. Inside the building, there is an astronomy gallery, audio & visual material room, and both main and auxiliary observation rooms. Located in a mountainous region in the inland of Gangwon-do, Yeongwol has a clean natural environment free from pollution. Aranabi Zipline

As “Ara” means “ocean” in Korean, Aranabi conveys an image of butterflies flying over the ocean. Aranabi Zipline offers a zipline consisting of a pulley suspended on a cable that is 12m in x_height. Statue of Soyanggang Maid

The bronze statue of the Soyanggang Maid, which was dedicated by the City of Chuncheon in 2005 to promote the beloved Korean song of "Soyanggang Cheonyeo" (Soyanggang Maid) and the Soyanggang River, is a large statue standing 7 meters tall. The modern statue strikes a balance with the Soyanggang River and its surrounding scenery. The statue is located at the intersection of Soyanghoban in the direction of Gongjicheon.

Pyeongchang Mooee Arts Center

The former Mooee Elementary School has been transformed into Mooee Arts Center exhibiting works of noted Korean artists. It is located in the town of Bongpyeong-myeon in Pyeongchang-gun County, which was the hometown of the famous Korean writer Lee Hyo-seok (1907-1942) and the background setting of his representative novel ‘When Buckwheat Blossoms Bloom.’ Mooee Arts Center opened on April 18, 2001 after 2 years of preparation by Korean artists of various genres including the Western-style painter Jeong Yeon-seo, calligrapher Lee Cheon-seop, sculptor Oh Sang-wook, and potter Kwon Soon-beom. The schoolyard has been turned into an outdoor sculpture park displaying large-scale sculptures. The arts center also offers hands-on experience programs and a chance to view the artists creating their pieces.
