Chungcheongbuk-do(Cheongju-si)

Sangsoo Herb Land is an arboretum which houses 1,000 species of herbs throughout its 82,645㎡ (25,000 pyeong) area. The glass greenhouse, spanning over 9,917㎡ (3,000 pyeong), keeps herbs fresh and green, even in the winter season. Herb Land is well-known for their flowers that bloom year-round, as well their diverse events including the Herb Land Festival held in May each year, wedding ceremonys, banquets, hands-on program classes, and more. Sangsoo Herb Land provides a wide array of programs for visitors. The major event is the Herb Land Festival, aiming to spread knowledge on the use of diverse herbs, including introducing the aromatic value of herb plants in landscaping and as a natural insecticide, as well as the health benefits of herbal foods. Participants can take part in seminars and hands-on activities to learn more about herbs. The banquet room on the second floor can accommodate large groups for events, serving excellent herb dishes at reasonable prices. An outdoor wedding service surrounded by beautiful gardens is also available.


Chungcheongbuk-do(Danyang-gun)

Danyang is known for its Danyang Palgyeong (eight wonders of Danyang). The scenery around Chungjuho Lake, including Dodamsambong Peak, Gudambong Peak and Oksunbong Peak, can all be enjoyed from a ferry cruise. The meandering stream and the majestic view of Sainam Rock and Sangseonam Rock create a soothing, tranquil ambience. Situated at the center of the Korean Peninsula is Sobaeksan National Park, from which one can admire the beauty of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range. The mountain’s many trails that lead to Birobong Peak and to other peaks are popular among hikers. Darian, Cheondong and Ondal are great choices for family trips. These places are known for outdoor camping sites and drama filming locations. The Danyang Special Tourist Zone holds special events that promote the county’s nature and history. The Sobaeksan Royal Azalea Festival is held in May, while the Ondal Culture Festival takes place in October. Chungcheongbuk-do(Jecheon-si)

Bakdaljae Natural Forest is a dense forest where pine trees and bushes have harmoniously coexisted together with oddly formed rocks and strangely shaped stones for 150 years. At the top of Bakdaljae Pass, there’s a pavilion, a spring, a resting area, and a wood sculpture park. From the top of the mountain, one can admire a view of Sobaeksan Mountain, Wolaksan Mountain and Gamaksan Mountain.


Chungcheongbuk-do(Goesan-gun)

The Sanmaki Yetgil (Old Road) is a 4-kilometer long old path connecting Saorang Village (located in Waesa-ri, Chilseong-myeon, Goesan-gun Chungcheongbuk-do Province) to the mountain village Sanmaki. Restored by retracing the old path, Sanmaki Yetgil is a great walking trail passing by mountains, streams, and forests. Most of the path is paved with wooden deck in the eco-friendly method to minimize damages to the environment and to maintain the natural look. The surrounding beauty is recognized as the best scenic view of Goesan. The natural ecosystem around Goesan Dam has been preserved in its original state.


Chungcheongbuk-do(Cheongju-si)

Opened on May 4, 2001, Midongsan Arboretum in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do is a provincial arboretum, built to develop and propagate forestry techniques and found ecological education environments. Covering an area of 3,114,049.60㎡ (942,000 pyeong), the arboretum houses almost 873 species of plants and 652,000 plants in 11 exhibition halls including an Oak tree hall, a Maple tree hall, and a genetics hall, which presents plant genetic resources like Jeongipumsong hugyemok (succession of pine tree). In addition to the 11 themed arboretum halls, Midongsan Arboretum also has a forestry educational hall, plant seed bank, research center for wild plants, nature experience camp, and more.


Chungcheongbuk-do(Chungju-si)

Bonghwang Natural Forest is located on Ulgungsan Mountain (398m) in Chungju. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, Bonghwang Natural Forest offers cool, yet cozy environment. The forest is comprised mainly of oaks, pines, larches, and chestnuts trees. Its gentle slopes offer an easy hike, suitable for family visitors with small children. A small stream winds through the valley at the forest entrance, and there is also an auto camping site. There are many attractions nearby including Wolaksan National Park, Chungjuho Lake, Suanbo Spa, Neungam Spa, and Tangeumdae Pavilion, which makes it a great place for family or group visitors.Facilities inside Bonghwang Natural Forest include a water pool for children and a survival game ground. Visitors can learn to distinguish quality chestnuts at the 5ha of chestnut tree forest near the lodging building for group visitors. The nearby Chungju Goguryeo Astronomical Phenomena Exploratorium provides a memorable opportunity to observe the stars on clear nights.


Chungcheongbuk-do(Okcheon-gun)

Jangnyeongsan Mountain is noted for its beautiful scenery embracing pine trees, maple trees, and broadleaf trees. It is popular in the fall due to its stunning autumn foliage. Geumcheon Valley flows through the Natural Forest where there are accommodation facilities including an outdoor swimming pool. Yongamsa Temple houses Ssangseoktap (Tangible Cultural Asset No. 3 of Chungcheonbuk-do) and a Standing Rock-carved Buddha (Tangible Cultural Asset No. 8 of Chungcheongbuk-do) is near the temple ground.


Chungcheongbuk-do(Chungju-si)

The site stretches from North to South on a basin in the Haneuljae mountain pass, which connects Chungcheongbuk-do and Gyeongsangbuk-do provinces. It is said that Mauitaeja, the last prince of the Silla Kingdom, had dream one night as he was traveling to Geumgangsan Mountain where the Goddess Gwanseeumbosal instructed him to erect a statue Buddha. As a result, he built a temple to honor the goddess’ wishes at the current site of Mireuk-ri. Though the temple site has been invaded multiple times, the statue of Buddha has remained intact for over 1,000 years.


Chungcheongbuk-do(Jecheon-si)

Jecheon is home to one of Korea’s three major medicinal herb markets to emerge since the Joseon Dynasty. The scenic city distributes almost 60 types of medicinal herbs produced from the Taebaeksanmaek Mountain Range, energized by its generous local residents. The city aims to excel in the scientific study, industrialization, and globalization of Hanbang (Korean traditional medicine) throughout the world, to boost longevity and health. Jecheon’s Korea Medicine-Bio Fair is held in Expo Park in Wangam-dong, Jecheon-si. The festival includes an array of hands-on programs including exhibitions, trading, events, symposiums, hands-on activities, designated resting areas, a folk song concert, cultural events, cultural art performances, and more.


Chungcheongbuk-do(Cheongju-si)

Located within the Chojeong Culture Park in Naesu-eup, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, Chojeong Haenggung (“Temporary Palace”) offers a hanok (traditional Korean house) stay. Chojeong Haenggung was originally a temporary palace where King Sejong stayed for over a hundred days in 1444 for treatment of an eye disorder. It was burnt down in 1448, and restored in June 2020 as hanok culture experience facilities. The palace itself also contains a number of interesting sights, such as the exhibition hall, reading room, foot bath, and a chance to sample Chojeong’s famous mineral water. Hanok Experience Hall, which acts as an accommodation, has 12 rooms in total, including Sejonggwan, Soheongwan, Hunmingwan, and Jeongeumgwan. There are 10 four-person (maximum of six guests) rooms in the complex, and 2 six-person (maximum of eight guests) rooms. Each room has a slightly different structure, but all follow the Korean ondol (under-the-floor heating system) room format with a large wooden-floored hall or a raised open floor space. Rooms also come with an attached restroom with a shower booth. Cooking is prohibited in the room, but a microwave oven and an electric kettle allow the guests to prepare some instant food or reheat their food. Citizens of Cheongju are eligible for discounts.
