Divided into four areas (Mungyeong, Gaeun, Maseong and Nongam), the Mungyeong Special Tourist Zone is a charming place to relax and experience a variety of activities in nature. Here visitors can find attractions such as the Mungyeong Hot Springs, Mungyeongsaejae Provincial Park and the KBS Film Set. The Mungyeong area is home to Mungyeongsaejae, a mountain pass connecting Mungyeong City and Goesan County. During the Joseon period, Mungyeong Saejae played an important role as the gateway in and out of Gyeongsang Province. Saejae, meaning “bird pass,” refers to “a pass so high and steep that even birds find the crossing difficult.” The Mungyeongsaejae-gil road inside Mungyeongsaejae Provincial Park is well developed and suitable for hikers of all ages. Here, visitors can appreciate the lush forest and the fall foliage in autumn. There are three gates along the pass: Juheulgwan, Jogokgwan, and Joryeonggwan. Collectively, they are known as Mungyeong Gwanmun (Mungyeong Gateways). Near each gateway, there are areas where hikers can stop and take a rest. There are also hiking trails leading to nearby mountains such as Juheulsan Mountain and Tanhyangsan Mountain. The nearby Mungyeong Hot Spring is perfect for unwinding after a long hike. The SBS Film Set and the Mungyeong Coal Museum are located in the Gaeun area just south of Mungyeong. Daeyasan Mountain and Yongchu Valley are located nearby and the area has plenty of accommodation facilities for tourists and hikers. Mungyeong rail bike, which departs from Gaeun Station and Gurang-ri Station, is also popular. Popular summer destinations such as Ssanyong Valley and STX Resort are located in the Nongam area. Many companies visit this place for corporate training sessions and team building activities. Saudang Jongtaek (Head Family House) is located in Yundong Village in Seongju Gyeong sang buk –do, which is the concentrated village of Euiseong Kim Clan. Saudang is the old house enshrining Kim Yong-Cho, the founding contributor of the Joseon Dynasty, and composed of 7 Korean style houses positioned on the hill in tiers. Entering the gate, you will be able to see various kinds of flowers and trees growing in a wide grass garden. There is a small vegetable garden on one side of the yard. Behind the vegetable garden is the platform for small and large pots containing sauces and condiments. The rooms are composed of 4 independent Korean style houses: Saudang, Joseondang, Etiquette Room, and Experience Room. The owner of the house provides free lessons on traditional culture and etiquette in the training center. Visitors can learn or experience traditional Korean etiquette, tea ceremony, the culture of classical scholars, and the traditional ceremonies in ordinary homes. Equipment for traditional plays such as Neolttwigi, Yutnori, Tuho, Jige (Korean A0frame), small gong, etc. are prepared free of charge. All visitors can taste complimentary traditional teas while listening to Gayageum music played by the wife of the eldest grandson of the head family. If you want a rest of body and mind, inquire about the meditation class prepared by the owners of the house. You can also enjoy comfortable walking and trekking in the Dullegil path, which has been constructed recently along the village trail and the lotus flower complex.

All the guest rooms have a two-story structure with a bathroom and a kitchen. They are designed to accommodate three guests, and even up to six or seven guests. All of the guest rooms except for rooms 302 to 305 in Building A and rooms 305 and 306 in Building B have an indoor jungle gym for kids. The jungle gyms are installed in the living room in front of large windows. Each room also has a spacious swimming pool filled with natural spring water. Only room 302 in Building A has a whirlpool bathtub where you can enjoy home spa instead of a swimming pool. Guests can also enjoy a grill in the private terrace. The self-contained kitchens are fully equipped with kitchen appliances including a refrigerator and a microwave. The pension also offers hotel-quality bedding to make sure the guests rest comfortably. Management also pays a lot of attention to disinfecting and sterilizing the facilities. Common areas shared by all guests include two swimming pools, a rest area, and a cafe, which are all located on the first floor of Building A. The common swimming pool also uses natural spring water, which means you can enjoy a swim comfortably even on cold days. Nearby tourist attractions include Cheongdo Luge, Cheongdo Provence, and Cheongdo Wine Tunnel.

Palgongsan Provincial Park

Palgongsan Mountain (1,192m in elevation), in the outlying reaches of the Taebaek Range, stands sentinel over the spot where the Nakdonggang and Geumhogang Rivers converge. In the past, Palgongsan Mountain was regarded as a sacred mountain because it resembles the shape of the Three Buddhas. This mountain has magnificent granite formations at higher elevations, and the beautiful valleys, seamlessly interwoven with rock formations and thick forests, make for a spectacular view. Palgongsan Mountain borders Gyeongsan, Yeongcheon, Gunwi-gun and Chilgok-gun in the north and surrounds Daegu metropolitan city in the south. With Birobong Peak in the middle, it extends to Dongbong Peak – Gwanbong Peak (Gatbawi Stone Buddha) in the east and Seobong Peak – Gasan Fortress in the west (20km long). It also offers many beautiful trails. At Gunwi-gun (Palgongsan Provincial Park), you can find a Grotto of the Three Buddhas and Ingaksa Temple. This park reflects the glory of Korean Buddhist culture, containing numerous statues of the Medicine Buddha.
