Seoul(Jung-gu) , Dongdaemun

Jangchungdan Park is located on the north-eastern foot of Mt. Namsan. On August 20th, 1895, Empress Myeongseong was killed by Japanese soldiers in Gyeongbok Palace and many Korean soldiers such as Gyeongjik (I) and Hong Gyehun died while trying to hold back the intruders. In memory of these soldiers, Emperor Gojong built the Jangchungdan Shrine on November, 1900 (currently the site of the Shilla Hotel guesthouse). The shrine was lost during the Korean War and the area was renovated into a park in 1919.On September 22 1984, Jangchungdan Park was designated the 374th neighborhood park of Korea and part of the park was merged with Namsan Park. The remaining area retained the name “Jangchungdan Park” and is still home to cultural assets such as the Jangchungdan Memorial Stone, Supyogyo, Seungjeongjeon, Gwanseongmyo, and Waryongmyo. The park is considered a landmark of patriotism since it contains the 1919 Independence Movement of Korea Memorial Stone and other monuments dedicated to people such as Han Yongun, Yu Gwansun, and Gim Yonghwan who have fought for the independence of Korea.

Busan(Jung-gu)

Hotel Commodore is modeled after the royal residence of the king during the Joseon Dynasty. Each floor is decorated with colorful works of art and the walls are embossed with traditional Korean designs and pictures. The floors and ceilings are decorated with lotus blossom patterns and the handrails are impressively crafted into the shape of dragons. The crescent-shaped structure gives guests a majestic view of the Busan Port and the ocean.

Jirisan is one of the representative Korean restaurants in Insa-dong, an area known for its traditional culture. The restaurant gives visitors a chance to experience a hearty traditional Korean-style meal, but has thoughtfully toned down its seasonings to appeal to a wider audience (particularly those not used to spicy foods).One of the recommended menu items is the Jirisan set meal, which offers diners the chance to sample foods that are popular in the Jirisan region. Adventurous diners may want to try the sea urchin soup or dried Pollack soup.The restaurant, originally a traditional Korean house, has been modified over the years to better suit the needs of its customers. The walls surrounding the structure were removed and a glass ceiling was installed to allow guests to enjoy the natural light of the sun as they sample some of the area’s best traditional Korean cuisine.

Unlike traditional 'gukbap,' which is rice in beef broth based soup, the rice and the soup in 'ttaro-gukbap (ttaro meaning 'separately')' are served separately. It is a speciality in Daegu, and the main dish served at Gugil Ttarogukbap (국일따로국밥). The restaurant makes the broth with beef bones, and adds spices, meat and coagulated ox blood to complete rich and flavorful soup. Meanwhile, the restaurant was designated as a site of master craftsmanship by the Korean Traditional Culture Preservation Committee, as well as an authentic local speciality restaurant in Daegu. ​

Korean Martyrs’ Museum was opened in October of 1967 as Jeoldusan Martyrs' Shrine, in memory of the Catholic martyrs who lost their lives during the Byeongin Persecution of 1866. The name of the museum changed to the current Korean Martyrs' Museum in August of 2008. The museum displays artifacts and materials in exhibitions related to the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea.


Gyeonggi-do(Suwon-si) , suwon

A haenggung is a temporary palace where the king and royal family retreated to during a war. Hwaseong Haenggung Palace is the largest one of these, use by the Joseon kings since the time of King Jeongjo (r. 1776-1800).In addition to being used as a shelter during war, King Jeongjo also stayed here during trips to worship at his father's tomb. The palace was the location of a splendid feast held on the 60th birthday of his mother, Hyegyeonggung Hong, and many other events, including award certificates for successful candidates of special national exams.Jangyongyeong guard ceremony is held at the front gate every Sunday from April to October.


Seoul(Jongno-gu) , Insadong・Jongnon

Located close to Dongdaemun Gate and Cheonggyecheon Plaza, Haruyeonga is a great restaurant for a hearty meal after sightseeing or shopping in the surrounding area.Haruyeonga specializes in meat and typical Korean dinning options, including bibimbap with marinated pork, spicy ribs and doenjang stew (bean paste stew) with lean beef brisket. Their stir-fried small octopus is also popular. The Jeju roasted black pork is another must try dish as it is grilled over hardwood charcoal.


Daejeon(Yuseong-gu)

The Geological Museum located in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon-si, is the nation’s first comprehensive museum dedicated to geology. The museum (est. 2001) boasts an architectural design inspired by the breastplate of a Stegosaurus and is divided into a main hall, 2 exhibition rooms, a show room, an outdoor exhibition area, and a special exhibition hall.The Main Hall of the museum is all about dinosaurs and is packed with fossils and other dinosaur-related items. Exhibition Room 1 is broken down into three different themes—Mother Earth, Fossils & Evolution, and Geological Excavation—while Exhibition Room 2 has on display diverse minerals, rocks, and meteorites.Operated with the goal of promoting public understanding and support of the field of geology, the museum offers geology-related movies/videos, lectures and diverse hands-on experience programs. There is even a geology specimen center where samples are preserved for use by researchers.


Jeju-do(Seogwipo-si) , Seogwipo

Ripley’s "Believe It or Not!" Museum (originally created by Robert Ripley) is the largest museum franchise business in the world, with 31 locations worldwide. The new branch on Jeju Island (near the entrance of Jungmun Resort, Seogwipo-si) is the 32nd location and 11th country for the chain. The Jeju branch of the museum consists of 12 galleries, an outdoor park, souvenir shop, and a coffee house. The museum will feature as many as 700 astounding, one-of-a-kind items collected by explorer Robert Ripley (1893∼1949), during his travels of over 35 years to 198 different countries. Visitors to the museum will be awed by a large selection of hard-to-believe pieces including part of the Berlin Wall from 1989, meteorites from Mars, and a life-size model of man that's part Unicorn. All the items on display come complete with anecdotes and historical explanations, which present an amusing alternative to traditional museums.
