International Horticulture Goyang Korea

First held in 1997, the Goyang International Flower Exhibition has attracted about over 5.7 million visitors thus far, including the 8th Flower Exhibition in 2014. The event is considered to be Korea’s representative international flower exhibition. This year’s festival will be taken place in Ilsan Lake Park in Goyang city from April to May with 320 related organizations, groups, and companies from 35 countries, to showcase flowers and various products made with flowers. Also, unique and rare plants exhibition, indoor garden decorated with flower art pieces, outdoor theme parks, making of flower plant experience, flower arrangement contests, as well as other cultural events and performances will be planned to add more joy to the flower festival.

Yeongnangho Lake

Yeongnangho Lake is actually a naturally formed lagoon with a depth of 1.21 Km2 and a circumference of 7.8 Km. The name ‘Yeongnangho’ originated in Silla Period (57 BC – AD 935), when a young man named Hwarang and his friend Yeongnang were returning from the Geumgansan Mountains and they encountered a lake. Awestruck at the beauty of the lake they named it after Yeongnang.Nearby Yeongnangho Lake is a resort with a golf course and canoe rentals, as well as many pedestrian pathways that joggers enjoy in morning. When visiting the lake, one must be sure to stop by the Beombawi Rock; 'Beom' means tiger in English. This rock takes on the form of a tiger. Many visitors climb this rock to enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Ieyoung Contemporary Art Museum is a personal collection of art that features valuable works centered on humanitarianism. Entering the eco-friendly exhibition space, you will be met by works of contemporary masters, ranging from sculptures to Oriental and Western paintings. In addition to exhibitions, the gallery also holds hands-on art programs for children.The gallery is home to the largest collection of works by Park Sang-Gwang, a patriotic painter. In 2004, to mark the 100th anniversary of Park’s birth, the gallery created a foundation with the dual purpose of studying Park and his works and indentifying undiscovered traditional artists in Korea. Ever since the establishment of the foundation, the gallery had increased in both collection size and quantity year after year.

Taereung / Gangneung (a.k.a, Taegangneung) [UNESCO World Heritage]

Designated as Historical Site No. 201, Taereung Gangneung is comprised of two tombs. Taereung Royal Tomb (태릉) houses the burial mound of Queen Munjeong who was the second queen of King Jungjong, the 11th King of the Joseon Dynasty, and Gangneung Royal Tomb (강릉) houses the burial mounds of King Myeongjong, the 13th King of Joseon Dynasty, and Queen Insunwanghu. King Myeongjong ascended the throne after his elder brother, King Injong when he was twelve years old at Geunjeongjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace in 1545. The king’s mother, Queen Munjeong ruled behind the scenes, acting as guardian for eight years. The park is best known for its spectacular sunset views, which is often regarded as a perfect complement to Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak's view of the sunrise.To the north of Sarabong Park is a spectacular view of the expansive blue waters and to the south is Hallasan Mountain. Along the way to the park is Mochungsa Temple and to the east lies Byeoldobong Peak, where a paragliding runway is located. At the foot of Sarabong is Udang Library. The road from the library, passing behind Sarabong Peak to Jeju Harbor and to Tapdong provides a very scenic driving route.

Jongjeom Tteok-bokki

Jongjeom has been open for 25 years. Initially, it was located at the end of Tteok-bokki Street, which is how it earned the name Jongjeom, meaning "the end of the line." (Currently, several other restaurants have opened up around Jeongjeom’s original location). The restaurant serves Sindangdong-style tteok-bokki, which combines red pepper paste and Chinese soybean paste to create a sweet and spicy fare. Another well-known specialty is dakbal (fried chicken feet seasoned with red pepper paste), which is especially popular among secondary school students. Tip: Order tteok-bokki to get a free soda.
