Jeju-do(Seogwipo-si) , Seogwipo

Da Vinci Museum, located in Seogwipo-si on Jeju Island is the only museum that has the Da Vinci License in Korea. The museum offers visitors a chance to experience a wide variety of activities and hands-on programs. When you think of Leonardo Da Vinci, a few things that come to mind are the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. However, one of the greatest masterpieces in his life is the Codex, a collection of his writings. Over 7,000 pages of the Codex, A.K.A. a notebook of secrets, survives today, and the museum displays over 200 works created and inspired based on the writings in the Codex. The museum houses information about the life and times of Leonardo Davinci, a superb scientist, anatomist, and inventor.


Gyeongsangbuk-do(Gyeongju-si)

B-Boy City in Seoul “Kung” is a non-verbal musical performance that tells the story of the dance group Gorilla Crew. The main character, Hochan, anguishes about the stark reality he is facing as a dancer. Through dynamic performances, the B-boys Hyeonmun, Donghui and Seongtaek relate their agony, happiness, and passion for dancing.Gorilla Crew had won previous acclaim as a talented dancing team for well-known performances such as “Ballerina Who Loves B-boy” and “Return.” The performance's energizing mix of dance techniques is certain to delight audiences.*Note: Due to the MERS outbreak, some performances will be discontinued until August, 2015; please call to confirm.


Gyeongsangbuk-do(Andong-si)

Andong Hahoe Doenjang Village is located by the crossroad of Hahoe Village and Byeongsanseowon Confucian Academy in Pungcheon-myeon, Andong-si. The village is built purely of red clay and the villagers are devoted to preserving the 600 year-long tradition of doenjang (fermented soybean paste) making. Over 3,000 large jars used for storing doenjang will greet visitors at the village entrance. Highlights of the village include a red clay storage room capable of storing around 100 tons of soybeans, a giant iron pot for boiling up to 100 kilograms of beans at once, and a large glass drying room used for hanging meju (fermented soybean blocks) to dry. Using these features, doenjang is made by boiling domestically produced soybeans and shaping them into blocks of meju, which are then left to ferment and dry for 2 to 3 months. The village facilities are comprised of an exhibition center at the entrance, a production center, and two drying rooms. The exhibition center invites visitors to sample various fermented soybean condiments and displays all the products made in this village. The drying rooms are specially designed to allow maximum sunlight and ventilation. Finally, the production center preserves the traditional methods of making doenjang such as boiling soybeans in a giant iron pot and fermenting meju in a ondolbang (a room with the Korean floor heating system).


Jeollanam-do(Yeosu-si)

At 450m long and 11.7m wide, Dolsandaegyo Bridge is the largest cable-stayed bridge in Korea. Since its construction in 1984, the bridge, which connects Yeosu and Dolsan-do Island, has brought commerce and tourism to the island. Today, the bridge itself has become a popular tourist destination, illuminated at night by exterior lighting from the marine park across from the island. On the Yeosu side of the bridge is an octagonal pavilion observatory overlooking the picturesque Yeosu Harbor, while on the other side is Dolsan-eup known as the raw fish town. Underneath the bridge on the Dolsan-eup side is a cruise ship dock, where visitors will find a replica of the noble Geobokseon (turtle-shaped ship), and may ride a cruise ship to Odongdo Island or Hyangilam Temple on the edge of Dolsan-do Island.


Gyeonggi-do(Anseong-si) , Anseong

Namsadang Baudeogi Festival, a popular culture and art festival, will be held in the hub of art and culture in Anseong. Since it first started in 2001, this festival has been promoting the preservation of the tradition of Namsadang (troupes of entertainers who traveled around the country). It also became the official festival of CIOFF (International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts) in 2006.Based on the Namsadang Baudeogi, Anseong World Folkloriada (안성세계민속축전) is considered as the most successful festival ever, drawing seven hundred thousand visitors. In 2013, It has been renamed as the Anseong Namsadang Baudeogi Festival and will be held at Anseong Matchum Land.During the festival, visitors can look forward to parades, performances, hands-on activities, exhibitions and contests. Programs include a Baudeogi (leader of one of the best Namsadang groups) memorial ceremony, parades, an opening ceremony, special autumn events, guerilla performances, the Anseong citizen Beona dolligi (dish spinning), themed village and connecting farm village experience programs, etc.


Chungcheongnam-do(Asan-si)

Oeam Village was formed as a clan village for the Yi family hailing from Yean. Pungdeok House was built 250 years ago and is the main house of the Yi clan’s family estate. The house is box-shaped like the Korean letter “ㅁ” (mieum), a typical architectural shape in the Chungcheong-do province. Oeam Folk Village still looks as it did when it was built about 500 years ago. Follow the village’s narrow winding roads lined with low stone walls and you’ll find Pungdeok House. At first sight, this simple hanok may seem like a snapshot of a yangban’s (ruling class or aristocrats of the Joseon Dynasty) household, but it is actually a house famous for the exceptional dishes it serves. [The best taste born after 13 times of jesa (memorial ritual for ancestors)] In order to continue the line of succession, the head family’s eldest grandson and his wife returned to the village. They wanted to turn the house into a lively and cheerful space for the youth so they started a hanok experience program. As it has been preserved well, the house still retains its original appearance. After undergoing repair and maintenance, the house opened to the public in the spring of 2012. Because she had to prepare food for jesa at least once a month, the eldest grandson’s wife acquired cooking skills in the process. In particular, the traditional dishes she learned from her mother-in-law were instrumental in making Pungdeok House a famous local restaurant. Their most representative dishes are the giju-tteok (steamed rice cake) and the jinip-guk (vegetable soup).  


Gyeongsangnam-do(Geochang-gun)

For over four decades since it was first developed to provide industrial water, the 1.2㎢ lake area has been isolated with high barbed wire fences set up for water quality control and safety reasons. As time went by, the area has fallen behind in comparison with other regions and gradually became a deserted area. But now, after the wired fence has been removed, various facilities and walking paths were created to compliment the breathtaking scenery and the surroundings.


Gyeongsangnam-do(Tongyeong-si)

Gangguan Port Geobukseon is life-size reconstruction of a Geobukseon ship constructed by the South Korean Navy and commissioned by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to commemorate the patriotic spirit of Admiral Chungmugong Lee Sun-Sin. The 2.2-billion-won project was completed in the downstream area of the Hangang River (part of the DMZ), which previously had limited public access. After that, the area was opened to the public for the first time in 52 years (since the division of the peninsula) to allow the Geobukseon Ship to travel from Hangang Park to Tongyeong-si. Seoul(Jongno-gu)

Changuimun was often called Jahamun. It was one of four mini gates in the north surrounding the castle town Seoul during the Joseon Dynasty. But because one of the four main gates, Sukjeongmun, was closed, Changuimun became a favorite north gate. Hence, people also called Changuimun the North Gate. It is the only gate among four mini gates that is still in its original state. Although it is small, almost 50m², in terms of size, it looks very firm and sturdy. While Dongsomun Gate, one of four mini gates, is decorated with a phoenix, Changuimun Gate is adorned with a wooden chicken along its rafters. The reason behind the wooden chicken was that the chicken was believed to be the nemesis of the centipede. People believed that installing the wooden chicken was important to overcome the harmful spirit of the centipede.
