Sinsido Island Fishing Experience Village
Jeollabuk-do(Gunsan-si)

Sinsido Island is the largest of the 24 islands in the Gogunsan Island Cluster 50 kilometers to the southwest of Gunsan. The cluster of islands (Sinsido, Seonyudo, Jangjado, Munyeodo, etc.) makes for such a breathtaking scene that it is affectionately known as the ‘Star Above the Lake.’ Sinsido, one of the most beautiful islands in the cluster, is located at the center of the Saemangeum Sea Wall connecting Gunsan and Buan. The sea wall itself is also a point of interest as it is the longest of its kind worldwide. To make the island of Sinsido even more tourist-friendly, the island government has systematically begun opening and supporting island “minbaks” (lodging facilities at private residences). While staying at one of these minbaks, guests can explore the island, visit the island’s mid-sized beach or go fishing. Although it’s possible to fish right off the rocks on the shores, travelers are encouraged to a rent a fishing boat in order to see more of the beautiful island scenery.

Mokpo Station

Mokpo Station is the gateway to the southwestern sea of Korea. It is the nation’s southwestern-most railway station and the last stop of the Honam Line, which is a major railway line serving the Jeolla-do province. The station offers easy access to a number of popular tourist destinations in the region including the Dadohae archipelago, Yeongam-gun, Haenam-gun, Muan-gun, Sinan-gun, and Jindo-gun. It is also a frequent stopover for travelers going to Jejudo, Heulsando, and Hongdo islands by ship. With the launch of the high-speed train KTX (Korea Train eXpress) services on April 1, 2004, the station building was expanded to its present state. The two-story station building is equipped with a reception hall, a ticket office, and various convenience facilities such as convenience stores, bookstore, tourist information center, and ATM machines.

Other facilities include the Pottery Experience Hall, Ganghwa Agricultural Goods Sales Office, outdoor lawn square for events and picnics, and a processing plant for agricultural and indigenous products including mugwort.Armiae World is located at the foot of Hyeolgusan Mountain, which is well-known for beautiful azalea flowers in the spring. Providing hands-on experiences in farming, Armiae World is emerging as a unique tourist attraction of Ganghwado Island.

Sosu Museum

Sosu Museum aims to consolidate and organize the nation’s traditional Confucian legacy and to establish the root of the national spirit through Sosuseowon, the first Confucian academy ever created in Korea. As a Mecca of Joseon Dynasty’s Confucianism, the museum is the only Confucian museum where you can experience the very valuable legacy of the Confucian culture and the history (the rise and fall) of Confucianism during the Joseon Dynasty. The museum opened on September 22, 2004 and since then, it has been a place where one can experience the dynamic historical adventure through valuable Confucian relics and remains. The museum also aims to revitalize the local culture of the Yeongju area by showcasing those well-preserved cultural assets and items.

Eunhasa Temple

Insa Gallery sells all kinds of mother-of-pearl lacquer crafts, including jewelry boxes, picture frames, plates, name card cases, hand mirrors, key chains, and other portable accessories. The products on sale range from traditional motifs to modern designs, such as wine stand. The store also carries specialized Korean tourism products that make for great gifts or collector’s items. Located on the first floor of Daeil Building, Insa Gallery is part of the shopping mall “Insa Korea,” which houses a number of stores specializing in traditional products. Thus, when locating Insa Gallery, visitors might find the address alone confusing. First, enter the shopping mall and look straight ahead toward the end of the central hallway, and you will find the store filled with glittering mother-of-pearl lacquer products.
