Jeollanam-do(Yeosu-si)

Yeosu Airport is the gateway to Yeosu city and the eastern part of Jeollanam-do Province. The airport opened in 1972 when Korean Air (KAL) launched a new air route between Seoul and Yeosu, and the route between Yeosu and Jeju was added in 1977. The travel time for the Seoul-Yeosu route is 1 hour and the Jeju-Yeosu route takes 45 minutes. The airport renovated its runway in 2004 and opened a new passenger building in 2005. As Yeosu is the host city of the 2012 World Expo, the city has plans to continue expanding facilities to provide the most convenient service.

Jeollanam-do(Hampyeong-gun)

This beach is located at the furthest western point of Hampyeong-eup. The tip of the area is rocky. The beach is named 'Dolmeori' meaning a rock head. Just hinterland to the beach there is a dense forest of sweet smelling pine trees and fresh water which is shallow enough for swimming. Although the difference in the landscape between high and low tide is considerable efforts have been made to make up for the shortcomings. A swimming pool has been installed over an area of 8,910 square metres, for swimming even during low tide. Also, various facilities have been installed for the user’s convenience. A long, wooden bridge has been erected for the viewing of the mud flats and sea creatures during low tide. On the mud flats there is a flurry of sea life, and the look-out sheds near the beach sell fresh summer fruits.

Jeollanam-do(Yeongam-gun)

This is a huge lake created when the Geumho tide embankment was constructed in Yeongam on November 1996, as part of a national project to reclaim some 4.3km stretch of sea from Sampo-ri in Samho-myeon of Yeongam-gun to Byeoram-ri in Hwawon-myeon of Haenam-gun. Some 100 species of migratory birds, numbering some 300,000, live in this area over the winter on the mud flats which are full of things to eat. Around the embankment where the sea water and fresh water meet, there is a great spot to fish for both fresh water and the sea species. This is perhaps the only place in Korea where the long and silvery cutlass fish, usually found in the deeper areas of the ocean, can be caught while sitting on the rocks along the seashore.

Jeollanam-do(Wando-gun)

This open set is the filming location of the TV series Taewangsasingi (The Legend). This is where scenes of a shipyard that built ships during the years of the great King Gwanggaeto were filmed. Major scenes for the drama series Haesin (Emperor of the Sea) were also shot here. The 16,000-pyeong space houses a variety of sets, including a dock, ships, inns and military quarters. The compound was designed to recreate various scenes from the Tang Dynasty. A number of historical dramas have been filmed here. In addition to the Sosepo Village, where Taewangsasingi (The Legend) was filmed, the Silla Village set in the east part of the site has private houses and taverns.

Jeollanam-do(Yeosu-si)

Nestled in the East coast of Dolsando Island (돌산도), the tranquil waters on this resort have mild waves that lap up on the shiny golden sand along the beach. Nearby there is a thick pine grove where some of the trees are 200 years old. This area is blessed with plenty of fresh inland water despite it being on the coast. The myriad of rocks near the sea are great for fishing. The beach is a popular spot to watch the sunrise. It is also situated on the way to Hyangiram Hermitage, one of Korea’s four hermitages where Buddhist followers come to pray.

Jeollanam-do(Jindo-gun)
