Gangwon-do(Wonju-si)

This traditional guesthouse overlooks Taebaeksan Mountain, the summit of Hambaeksan Mountain, and the ski hills of O2 Resort. The houses on the site were moved from the ancient villages of Gyeongju, Yeongcheon and Gyeongsan in Gyeongsangbuk-do, and then restored.Some houses are equipped with a furnace for heating in the winter. The inner and outer walls of the buildings are made with red clay. There is a small detached room similar to a pavilion, called cheongpungnu, on both sides of the gate. The hanok buildings were built using good lumber that has lasted more than 200 years old. Consisting of 6 buildings in total, this traditional guesthouse was remodeled to provide more modernized facilities for guests.The hanok is equipped with open yard great for outdoor activities, where visitors can set up and enjoy Korean barbeques, or sit on a straw mat or wooden bench to view dazzling stars in the peaceful rural night sky. Gangwon-do(Goseong-gun)

Located in the northernmost part of Korea, Goseong, Gangwon-do, is a special place from which to view the sunrise on New Year’s Day. It is also known as the starting point for the Geumgangsan Mountain trip to North Korea, so the sunrise festival features a variety of programs that bring together North Koreans living in the South, Goseong residents, and tourists in a ceremony to wish for reunification, a bell-striking ceremony, and the release of wish-balloons into the sky. The Sunrise Festival is held on January 1 on Hwajinpo Beach, a famous film location of the TV drama Autumn in My Heart. Visitors can take part in hands-on programs such as hope-balloon flying and a candle lighting ceremony. Afterwards, there will be a shamanistic ceremony called gut to wish for reunification, followed by music by a military band, a drum combo, and folk performances.


Gangwon-do(Goseong-gun)

Gangwon-do(Yeongwol-gun)

Chosun Minhwa Museum finished construction in 1998, in Waseok-ri, Gimsatga-myeon, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do and opened on July 29, 2000. The museum contains about 3,000 folk paintings (minhwa) from the Joseon era and is comprised of a hands-on program hall where visitors can paint a minhwa on a wood plate and the chunhwa (obscene painting) exhibition which is eligible for only adults. In addition to this museum, Gimsatgat Culture Hall and Indian Art Museum are also in Yeongwol.


Gangwon-do(Wonju-si)

Located in the center of Wonju is a traditional market, holding all the joys and sorrows of the citizens. Build 30 years ago, many of the facilities were run-down, and the parking and other customer facilities were inadequate. However, the market is now driving foward with reconstruction to bring back the old renown as well as ensure economic competition with medium and large-sized shops.


Gangwon-do(Inje-gun)

Inje Hwangtae Village, with its excellent winter landscape, is known for its dried hwangtae (Pollack), which repeatedly melts and freezes with the fluctuations in the weather, giving it a delicious chewy taste. Covered with snow, the area is worthy visiting in the winter to enjoy all it has to offer. While walking around the site, visitors are able to listen to the story of its background, and how myeongtae becomes hwangtae (dried Pollack) after passing through the hand of thirty one people. Nearby is Maebawi Rock, which has a metal path perfect for beginners, and it is also visited by advanced climbers for ice climbing in the winter months.


Gangwon-do(Samcheok-si)

The Maengbang Flower Festival is one of the landmark spring celebrations in Korea and is held every April near Samcheok-si City in Ganwon-do Province. The festival boasts a breathtaking view of canola flowers, cherry blossoms and the blue sea of the East Coast. The festival also offers a diverse set of events and programs including a local produce market, fresh strawberry picking, and exhibition on canola flowers and bees. The Samcheok Tourist Center will also be at the festival to help any tourists to the area visit the variety of tourist attractions nearby such as Haesindang Park, New Millennium Ocean Road, Wife of King Suro Park, and the filming place for “One Fine Spring Day.”


Gangwon-do(Yeongwol-gun)
