Gangwon-do(Pyeongchang-gun)

The Lee Hyo-Seok Culture Village is the place where the author Lee Hyo-Seok (penname “Gasan”) was born and raised. The village is also the setting of the author’s story "When the Buckwheat Blossoms,” one of the most celebrated Korean short stories to date. In 1990, the village place was designated ‘the first national cultural village,’ by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The village is comprised of the author's birth house, a water mill, Chungjujip, Gasan Park, Lee Hyo-Seok Memorial Hall, and the buckwheat museum. At the x_height of the blossoming season, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of snowy-white fields of buckwheat flowers and from late August to early September, the annual Lee Hyo-Seok Cultural Festival takes place. The Lee Hyo-Seok Cultural Festival commemorates the modern Korean writer and features buckwheat-themed programs. Events include a Hyo-seok essay contest, traditional performances, a costume parade, a photo contest, and "When the Buckwheat Blossoms" films and performances. During the festival, visitors can enjoy makguksu (buckwheat noodles) and buchim (buckwheat pancakes) and tour the locations that appear in the famous short story.


Gangwon-do(Cheorwon-gun)

Located five kilometers northwest of Cheorwon-gun Office, Sundam (순담계곡) is one of the most beautiful valleys among the branches of the Hantangang River (한탄강). It offers diverse views of fascinating rock-formations, steep cliffs and ponds. The valley is filled with abundant water, trimmed by rare naturally white sand. Also, the stream behind the valley attracts many rafters each year.


Gangwon-do(Hoengseong-gun)

Every year, Hanu (Korean native cattle) Festival takes places in Hoengseong County, where the climate and the environment are said to be perfect for raising cattle. The festival attracts a large number of people, who come to try the usually expensive Hoengseong hanu beef at affordable prices, along with another specialty of Hoengseong County, deodeok (mountain bellflower). In addition to food sampling, the festival holds diverse agriculture experience programs, while offering access to nearby attractions such as Hoengseong Hot Springs and Jucheongang River Natural Forest Lodge.


Gangwon-do(Gangneung-si)

The Gangneung Coffee Festival held its first event in 2009 as part of project in making Gangneung, a city of coffee. The festival celebrates the emerging coffee culture of Gangneung-si, which in recent years has welcomed in famous coffee chains and artisan coffee shops. The festival celebrates the scenic city’s past and present culture with a variety of coffee-related events such as exhibitions, photo exhibitions, coffee-making and coffee bean-roasting experience programs. Coffee entrepreneurs can also sign up for onsite seminars about the coffee industry.


Gangwon-do(Samcheok-si)

Janghohang Port is just 25km from downtown Samcheok. The port is famous for its round beach line and white sand shore and is known as the “Naples of Korea.” From the beach, Janghohang Port offers excellent views of unique rock formations in the sea. Being that it is a port town, it is a rich provider of seafood such as abalone, seaweed and sea cucumber. It is also known as an excellent place for recreational fishing.Janghohang Port provides many opportunities for a diverse array of activities. Visitors have the option to hop on a real fishing boat and join the crew for some deep sea fishing, where fresh catches can be filleted on the spot. The port also provides tours of sea farms and the chance to cast off with a cuttlefish angling boat at night in hopes of catching squid.
