Sawore Boribap - Apgujeong Branch

This restaurant specializes in boribap (steamed barley). Once a rather humble staple, boribap has been reintroduced as a popular health food. The meal consists of steamed barley and potato, as well as ten types of cooked greens, all mixed with red-pepper paste. Miso soup is also given as a side dish. Add some soup to the boribap for more flavor. Gamjajeon (a potato pancake) and dotorimuk (an acorn-starch jelly) are recommended as good appetizers. Gogung Tteurak

Located on the first floor of the National Palace Museum of Korea, Gogung Tteurak consists of a museum shop and a café. It is open from 9am to 10pm everyday except Mondays. The museum shop has on sale a variety of items with a traditional Korean flavor. You will find postcards, small pocket books, umbrellas, cushions, and T-shirts. Right next door, there is a café selling coffee, ginger tea, gukwacha (tea of a chrysanthemum), mogwacha (tea of a quince), as well as wild vegetable salad, royal tteokbokki, and royal noodles. Foreign visitors can choose the royal tteokbokki and other simple meals that are not too spicy. Ggultare (꿀타래판매점)

Known as a traditional snack enjoyed by royal families, the delicious ggultare consisits of 16,000 strands. Made of honey and malt, it is a widely popular snack among both Koreans and international tourists. Two ggultare shops in Myeong-dong and Insa-dong offer three different flavors: walnut, almond, and peanut ggultare. The unique way in which it is made has drawn media attention from abroad, causing the snack's popularity to skyrocket. Boramae Park

Boramae Park is a former Air Force Academy site that has been transformed into a recreational park. It adopted the name ‘Boramae’ (meaning hawk) which was the symbol of the site when it was the Air Force Academy. Myeongdong Tonkatsu

Opened in 1983, this restaurant serves delicious tonkatsu (Japanese pork cutlet). The secret is in aging thick slices of seasoned pork fillet (150kg total) for three to four days making the meat more tender. The slices are then coated with egg batter and breadcrumbs, and fried in hot oil (160캜) for about seven minutes. Voila! A tasty tonkatsu, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Also mouthwatering are the miso soup and fresh vegetables served with it. The first floor layout is a bar and the second and third floors are like spacious halls. During lunch, crowds of loyal customers wait in line. The restaurant is a favorite for all ages, from young to elderly regulars.

The classes are designed for visitors who simply wish to have a culinary experience, or avid cooks who wish to learn about Korean cuisine. The cooking classes are conducted in English and Japanese, and are taught by experienced teachers.With an added charge of 5,000 won, participants can experience wearing a hanbok (traditional Korean clothes) or visit a nearby traditional market (Tongin Market) to buy ingredients. The programs are offered from 9am to 6pm every day except for Sundays and a minimum of two participants is required.

Waryong Park

Situated in Myeongryun-dong (Seoul) and established in 1984, Waryong Park is located near Malbawi, one of the best overlooks from which to see the city of Seoul. The park is close to natural attractions such as Samcheong Park, Changgyeong Park, and Bukaksan (Mt. Bukak).Although it was difficult to grow trees in the park (and other parts of the country) because of the shallowness of the soil, many citizens participated in the nationwide campaign to plant over 10 million trees across the country, transforming places like Waryong into lush areas filled with flowering plants.In the park, spring blooms forth in a colorful assortment of cherry trees, ume flowers, azaleas, and forsythias, making it a popular destination for family visitors. There are also a variety of excellent amenities: badminton courts, aerobic fields, fitness facilities, and pavilions, wonderful for exercise, leisurely walks, or simply taking a break.A famous hiking trail, running between the Seoul Fortress Wall and Samcheong Park, passes right through the park. Flanked by cherry blossoms, the trail attracts droves of nature lovers throughout the year and especially in spring, when the trees are in full bloom. The trail also passes by the Fortress Wall in Bukaksan.
