Cheollipo Arboretum
Chungcheongnam-do(Taean-gun)

Cheollipo Arboretum located in Taean Coast National Marine Park was built in 1966 by C. Ferris Miller. The park currently contains approximately 14,000 different plant species, including some rare and endangered species. [Suggestion: Officially recognized by the International Society of Arboriculture, the arboretum is one of the most beautiful in Korea.This arboretum consists of 7 areas (ex: Main Garden, Dakseom Island, Sea Dune Area, etc.) on a 595,044m² (180,000 pyeong) of land. Almost 7,000 different species have been collected for nearly 3 decades. The arboretum also enjoys a coastal climate, and can sustain a variety of plant species from subarctic to subtropical environments. Tours are available throughout the year.The value of Magnolia kobus (1,800 plants in 450 species) and Ilex cornuta (400 species) received international recognition during the hosting of the World Magnolia kobus Seminar in 1997 and World Ilex cornuta Seminar in 1998. Jinjamhyanggyo Confucian School
Daejeon(Yuseong-gu)

Jinjamhyanggyo Confucian School was established to enshrine and orient the ancestral tablet of excellent classical scholars in 1405 (the 5th year of King Taejong's reign) and to educate people. More detailed information is not available in the record. The remaining building is called Daeseongjeon, and the ancestral tablets are 5 Seong, Songju 6 hyeon, and Korean 18 hyeon. One instructor, who received a plot of land and slaves from the nation, taught 30 students during the Joseon period, but after the Gapo Reform, the educational function disappeared and Seokjeon, a religious ceremony, was served in summer and fall with offerings of incense on the first day of each month and at the half-moon instead. Daeseongjeon (Cheongju Daeseong High School (Former Main Building of Cheongju Commercial High School) is designated as Registered Cultural Heritage No. 6.

Goseong Lavender Festival

Dodong Lighthouse
Gyeongsangbuk-do(Ulleung-gun)

Located in the north of Dodonghang Port, Dodong Lighthouse is also called Haengnam Lighthouse. From here, you can get a great view of Jeodonghang Port and its surrounding sea. The coastline walk path, starting from the left of Dodonghang Port, leads to the lighthouse. Another way is through the Haengnam mountain path behind Ulleung-gun Office. The 1.4-kilometer walk path from Dodonghang Port to Dodong Lighthouse is fascinating and the round trip takes roughly an hour and a half. On clear days, you can see Dokdo to the east from atop the lighthouse. To the north, you can see the beautiful landscape of Jeodonghang, Chotdae Candlestick rock, and Seonginbong Peak (the symbol of Ulleungdo). The lighthouse has long served as a beacon for Ulleung sailors. In 2006, it was newly renovated to include a small park and exhibition gallery. Nearby, there is Dodong Yaksu Spring. The sparkling water is said to help digestion and treat skin problems.

Geumgang Migratory Bird Observatory

The Geumgang Migratory Bird Observatory is located at Geumgang Estuary (Gunsan-si), one of the country’s most representative sites for migratory birds. With Geumgangho Lake, wide spreads of farmland, and an abundance of reeds and tidelands, the estuary draws flocks of migratory birds each winter.From the Migratory Bird Observatory, the first of its kind in Korea, visitors can watch birds in their natural habit. For an even deeper look at the patterns of these feathered travelers, the museum has on display bird specimens and exhibits depicting the hatching of bird eggs. Other facilities include the Geumgang Bird Park and the Ecological Center.In autumn of every year, the Gunsan International Migratory Bird Festival takes place at the Geumgang Migratory Bird Observatory, Geumgangho Lake, and Saemangeum area. One of the most popular programs at the festival is the bird-watching tour. The sight of tens of thousands of migratory birds flying overhead is truly astounding. The tour runs from the festival period all the way until the end of February.
