Gangjin Dawon

Gangjin Dawon is beautiful landscape of green tea fields located at the southern foot of Wolchulsan Mountain in Jeollanam-do. The area’s big temperature difference between day and night and the air thick with fog provide ideal conditions for tea cultivation. The tea cultivated in Gangjin Dawon has a strong scent and rarely tastes bitter. Gangjin Dawon is the home of the nation’s first green tea product “Baegunokpancha” that was produced up until the independence of Korea in 1945. Since 1980, an extensive area of mountainous territory has been cultivated for green tea production to become the more than 80 acres of green tea fields that it is today. As Gangjin Dawon is relatively lesser known than the green tea fields in Boseong, visitors can enjoy a leisurely time surrounded by the vastness of the green tea fields. Nearby attractions include Baengnyeonsa Temple, the Birthplace of Yeongnang, Gangjin Goryeo Cheongja Doyoji (Goryeo celadon porcelain kiln site), and Dasan Chodang, which is the house where the famous scholar Dasan Jeong Yak-yong (1762-1836) lived during his exile.

Upo Wetland Cyber Ecological Park

Upo Wetland Cyber Ecological Park collects data and conducts research on various wild wetland animals (birds, fish, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles), and displays these to the public. The Cyber Ecological Park promotes the message that humans are also part of nature and educates visitors on how we can live in harmony with nature. To help visitors learn more about the ecological environment, the Cyber Ecological Park consists of various galleries: Understanding Uponeup, the Four Seasons of Uponeup, Living Uponeup, Families of Uponeup, and Understanding the Ecological Environment. Each gallery exhibits dynamic models and videos, as well as hands-on interactive programs. The Cyber Ecological Park is a place of education for young people, a place of culture for everyone, and a place of relaxation for families. Visitors are encouraged to experience and learn more about the environment of the wetlands. After viewing all the exhibits, you can take a leisurely stroll around Uponeup Wetland.

Munui Cultural Properties Site
Chungcheongbuk-do(Cheongju-si)

Munui Cultural Properties Site offers overlooks of Daecheongho Lake. Attracting many visitors, the place was created to preserve and promote the local traditional culture of Cheongwon (Chungcheongbuk-do); it is a great place to learn about local history, culture, and arts.The spacious complex (132,232m2) is home to ten traditional houses (Munsangwan, houses by aristocrats, a museum, and a tavern), showing a form of a traditional village. It is also full of dolmens, stones (symbolizing abundant procreation), Jangseung (totem poles at the entrance of villages or temples), and Yeonjabanga (millstones worked by horses or oxen), providing visitors with opportunities to learn about traditional culture and life.With the theme of roof tiles, a relics gallery in the complex boasts over 774 local items, categorized in each historical period (e.g. the Silla Period, Baekje Period, etc.). Munsan-ri Stone Bridge, believed to have been built during the Goryeo Period, was restored in front of the gallery.The complex also offers a wide array of amenities including mineral spring sites, playgrounds, and Munui Movie Village (a drive-in movie theater in the parking lot). Nearby notable attractions include Artificial Falls, Yangseongsan Mountain, Jakdusan Mountain, Daecheongho Lake, Nosan Pine Forest, Donghwasa Temple, and Bugang Mineral Springs.

Gudambong Peak & Oksunbong Peak

Gudambong Peak and Oksunbong Peak (alt. 372m) are widely known as two of the “Eight Scenic Views of Danyang." Gudanmbong Peak (lit. Turtle Pond Peak) gets its name from the reflection of its rugged cliffs on the lake below, which is said to look like a turtle. Oksunbong Peak (lit. Jade Shoot Peak), well known for its magnificent scenery, was so named because its white and mossy rocks stand high like fresh bamboo shoots. The old historic book Yeojiseungnam (Geographical Survey of Korea) describes how Kim Il-son, a civil officer in the Joseon Dynasty, greatly extolled the beauty of its marvelous ravines. Both Gudambong Peak and Oksunbong Peak offer spectacular views of Chungjuho Lake and Geumsusan Mountain.

Anmyeondo Beach Shrimp Festival

The Anmyeondo Beach Shrimp Festival is held every fall in Taean County, Chungcheongnam-do Province where the area is famous for harvesting enormous tiger prawns. During the festival, visitors can sample a variety of fresh shrimp as well as crab, gizzard shads (Herring), abalone, and clams at reasonable prices. The festival also offers a list of exciting programs such as celebrity guest performances, a fireworks show, singing contest, shrimp-peeling contest, and shrimp-catching contest. Shrimp and prawns in the Taean area are known for their succulent taste. They can grow in size to 20cm and are best enjoyed during the fall. Anmyeondo Beach is also home to many by popular year-round attractions including Kkotji, Sambong, and Anmyeondo Natural Recreation Forest.

Jirye Arts Village
Gyeongsangbuk-do(Andong-si)

Jirye Arts Village is a great place to have a unique experience. Every month there are events such as making rice cake or kimchi and you can stay in traditional Korean houses. Jirye Arts Village is a village with Jisan Seodang (Cultural Asset No. 49), Jichonjongtaek (Cultural Asset No. 44), and Jichonjecheong (Cultural Asset No. 46), which were moved from the Imha Dam area because of the possibility of being flooded.  Jisan Seodang was established in 1800, the 24th year under the reign of King Jeongjo (reign 1752~1800) in remembrance of the achievements of Kim Bang-Geol, as a place for the future generations to study in. Jichonjongtaek is the head house of Kim Bang-Geol’s Family. Established in 1712 at his own request, Jichonjecheong was a shrine where sacrificial rites were held, which has been used as an auditorium.  Beyond the tile-roofed houses, low mountains surround Jirye Arts Village, and there is a lake down from the village. If you pass the tall gate there is a large square and straight ahead is the main building, the schoolhouse on the right and a shrine on the left hill.  Although the village is 350 years old, there are houses with rooms that are heated with wood. Because the village has preserved the old customs with small details, it is a great place to experience and understand Korean traditional culture.  Jirye Arts Village is a cultural inquiry spot for foreigners, a creative space for the artists to work, and is also used as a conference space.
