Banghwasuryujeong Pavilion
()

Banghwasuryujeong Pavilion, officially called Dongbukgangnu Pavilion, was built in 1794 during the construction of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. It sits atop a hill east of Hwahongmun Gate and offers beautiful views of the surrounding scenery. For this reason, the pavilion received the nickname Banghwasuryujeong, meaning a pavilion where one can "find flowers and stroll among willow trees." The pavilion was once damaged due to flooding and reconstructed in 1848, followed by continuous recovery and preservation efforts. In 2011, the pavilion was designated as Treasure No. 1709. Banghwasuryujeong Pavilion is evaluated as one of the most original architectures in Hwaseong for its unique composition and roof design that offer a different look depending on the viewer's angle. Known to be the spot where King Jeongjo would stop by to rest on his way to Hwaseong Fortress, the pavilion offers a bird's-eye-view of Yeonmudae Post to the east and Janganmun Gate to the west with Paldalsan Mountain in the background.

Former Belgian Consulate Office

The Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) Nam Seoul annex opened at the old Belgium consulate building on September 2, 2004. The old Belgium consulate building (Historic Site No. 254) was constructed in 1905 and restored in 1983. The building’s classical ionic columns and fireplaces have been kept intact, allowing the museum to serve as a tool for studying classic architecture of the 1900s as well as modern art. The blue-gabled building (measuring 1,569.58㎡) houses classrooms (B1) and exhibition halls and offices (1F-2F). Outside is a sculpture park. The Seoul Museum of Art has two annexes; the Gyeonghuigung annex and the Nam Seoul annex, which is used mainly for planned exhibitions and art education for children.

Gapsa Temple (갑사)

Gapsa Temple is located in the forested foothills of Gyeryongsan Mountain, 19 kilometers from Gongju and a three-hour walk from Donghaksa Temple. The temple is most beautiful during fall when surrounded by crimson foliage. Gapsa Temple was established by monk Adohwasang in 420, during the early Baekje Period. The temple's beauty allowed it to escape destruction many times, but it was ultimately burned down during the Imjin War (1592-1598). The current structures were built in 1604. Nearby attractions include Yongmunpokpo Falls, Sujeongbong Peak, and Cheonjinbotab Pagoda.

Yeongdeok Sunrise Park

A large fire razed the lush pine forests and pristine coastline of the Donghae area in Changpo-ri, several years ago. But, thanks to strenuous restoration efforts over the past four years, a beautiful park along the scenic seashore and an unmanned lighthouse have been built. Also, a fascinating promenade has been constructed, using sleeper stairs made from the remnants of burnt trees. The observation deck enjoys a broad, open view of the surrounding area and is the best place for photography. A citizens’ shelter, in the form of a pergola, has also been constructed. A series of 18 musical fish sculptures have been installed, and an ecological education field has been developed with wildflowers and native plant species.
