Gunsan Dongguksa Temple
Jeollabuk-do(Gunsan-si)

Dongguksa Temple was built by Japanese monk Seoneungbulgwan in 1909. The temple was run by Japanese monks for 36 years during the Japanese occupation, reverting to Korean jurisdiction when Korea was liberated in 1945. The historical temple is the only surviving Japanese-style temple in the nation. The temple is characterized by its two main buildings, Daeungjeon Hall and Yosachae, which are connected by a corridor, and the temple’s relative lack of decoration, which stands as a sharp contrast to the brilliantly-colored Korean temples. Dongguksa Temple was officially designated Cultural Asset No. 64 in July 2003 and is now a branch temple of Seonunsa Temple in Gochang, the 24th district of the Korean Buddhist Jogye Order.

Daegaya Experience Festival
Gyeongsangbuk-do(Goryeong-gun)

Daegaya (42-562) was a nation that inhabited the Gyeongsangnam-do province of Korea around the 4th Century. Daegaya was a sophisticated nation that even at this early age possessed extremely high standards of culture. They created the Gayageum (a twelve-stringed traditional Korean harp) and played a large role in establishing the culture of music. The festival program includes an exhibition of ancient relics, and visitors can take part in making Mokseons (wooden ships) that the Daegaya nation used to trade with other societies. The festival grounds are connected with a nearby farming village so visitors can pick strawberries and experience the Korean farming lifestyle.

Located on Namiseom Island in Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do, Imagine Nami is a store specializing in handmade crafts. Talented craftsmen based on Namiseom Island began producing works, and Imagine Nami became the place for selling their works, including various accessories made of leather and natural stones, glass crafts, fabric products, paintings, and other design works. Most artifacts deal with natural themes and stories about Namiseom Island. The recent collection features various handicrafts containing the image of Snowman, the representative icon of Namiseom Island, and artifacts include tea cups, candle holders, memo holders, magnets, ceramics, and other decorative interior items. At the entrance, the store sells snacks made by Namiseom Island’s own brands; the other section displays handicrafts from Namiseom Island and other handmade artifacts made by external artists, toys, daily goods, and more. The hanok-style store carrying the charm of the island has served as a popular photo zone for visitors. Namiseom Island is a small island that can be reached via boat, and the boat fare is inclusive of admission to the island. To visit Imagine Nami, visitors are required to enter Namiseom Island; while there, they can enjoy various cultures and convenience facilities.

Tamjingang River

Tamjingang River, 56km long in total, is one of the major three rivers (Yeongsangang, Seomjingang and Tamjingang) of Jeollanam-do Province area that crosses through the center of Jangheung-eup, passing Busan-myeon. It was formerly known as Yeyanggang River, but then later named Tamjingang after residents of Tamrado Island (now Jejudo Island) sailed down the river for the first time. At each river bend is a time-honored pavilion for taking a quality rest and enjoying the gentle breeze from the river. There are a dozen in total. The scenic beauty of the crystal clear water of the river stands complements the lush forest rocky areas of the mountains nearby.

Sogeumgang River

The four-kilometer stretch from Hwapyoju (화표주) to Morundae Cliff (몰운대), surrounded with 100 to 150-meter high rock cliffs and thick forest, is called Sogeumgang River (소금강, small Geumgang River), meaning that its beautiful scenery is reminiscent of that of the breathtaking Geumgang Mountain.
