The Jikji text (full name 'Buljo Jikji Simche Yojeol") is the world's oldest metal-printed book, being printed in 1377 at Cheongju's Heungdeoksa Temple, and as such, was included on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register in 2001. In order to spread the knowledge of Jikji around the world, the city of Cheongju has dedicated great efforts over the past years to host festivals and a memorial event for the awarding ceremony. The red clay Ondol (traditional Korean floor heating system) is similar to a sauna as the floor is heated with firewood.
