Gyeongsangbuk-do(Cheongdo-gun)

Located on the slopes of Mt. Namsan (home to Cheongdo-gun’s landmark Nakdae Waterfall), the Cheongdo Hanok School is an educational center for carpenters who specialize in traditional Korean architecture (hanok). Hanok (traditional Korean houses) hold cultural and historical value and the school has been gaining in popularity not only among carpenters, but also those who are interested in enjoy and upholding Korea's proud architectural history. The entrance of the school is marked with a large traditional "Neowa" (a house roofed with thick, unfinished shingles of pine) that immediately catches the eye. The school provides 3 types of courses. There is a basic carpentry course to teach people how to make wooden objects and structures, a course to nurture professional carpenters, and a course to teach carpenters how to build Hanok. The school’s hands-on programs offer visitors a chance to make a traditional Korean window and to saw and plane wood. There are cultural programs for children as well. Children, along with their parents, can make rice cake by pounding rice with a large hammer, bake sweet potatoes, or join a seminar on traditional Korean houses. The cultural programs change with each season.


Gyeongsangbuk-do(Gyeongju-si)

Since 1962, the Silla Cultural Festival has been a representative cultural celebration held in Gyeongju’s Bonghwangdae, Hwangseong Park, and the downtown area. It is a cultural festival that brings out the spirit of the ancient Silla kingdom, which has a remarkable history and culture. It also introduces Gyeongju’s vision of being a hub of culture and tourism that combines the old and the new. The festival allows residents and tourists to unite while building an ambience of positive interaction, as well as spreading an image of Gyeongju as a historical and cultural tourism city that embraces its thousand-year-old heritage.


Gyeongsangbuk-do(Ulleung-gun)

Ulleungdo Family Hotel (Former, Seonginbong Motel) is located at the entrance of Dodonghang cruise passenger terminal where visitors to Uleungdo Island arrive. Cruise ships to Ulengdo Island depart everyday from Pohang or Mukhohang. The motel named after Seonginbong Peak that looks like saint who soothe sharpness of surrounding mountains. There are three types of guestrooms including western style rooms, Korean style rooms, and VIP rooms. Some rooms have romantic portable bathtubs. The motel building is not tall because the island has building x_height limits. On the first floor of the hotel are some stores. There is a Manghyangbong Observatory nearby, from which people can see the great view over surrounding mountains and sea. At night, bright lights from squid fishing boats are also worth seeing.


Gyeongsangbuk-do(Andong-si)

Ontrepieum, meaning "to bloom flowers in a garden," is situated in Andong's Cultural Tourism Complex. With an area of approximately 30,000 ㎡, it consists of a 1,500-㎡ tropical green house, a 6,600-㎡ herb garden, farming land, an animal performance theater, a nature experience section, and other areas. The tropical greenhouse features tropical and subtropical plants, including herbs, coffee and palm trees. Over 17,000 trees planted in the park, along with its water fountain and photo zones, make it the perfect place for a fun weekend getaway, not to mention that it has been used as a filming location. It is a fantastic place to take some photos with a unique feel. The Andong Cultural Tourism Complex also has a couple of attractions nearby, including a KBS studio, the Korea Folk Museum, the Water Museum and Arts and Crafts Museum.


Gyeongsangbuk-do(Andong-si)

Andong Dam is a multipurpose dam on the Nakdonggang River. The dam was constructed to prevent flood damage to the downstream region and to procure water for agricultural, industrial, and residential purposes. Construction of the dam was started in April 1971 and completed in October 1976.


Gyeongsangbuk-do(Gyeongsan-si)

Palgongsan Mountain (1,192m in elevation), in the outlying reaches of the Taebaek Range, stands sentinel over the spot where the Nakdonggang River and Geumhogang River converge. In the past, Palgongsan Mountain was regarded as a sacred mountain because it resembles the shape of the Three Buddhas. This mountain has magnificent granite formations at higher elevations, and the beautiful valleys, seamlessly interwoven with rock formations and thick forests, make for a spectacular view. Palgongsan Mountain borders Gyeongsan, Yeongcheon, Gunwi-gun and Chilgok-gun in the north and surrounds Daegu metropolitan city in the south. With Birobong Peak in the middle, it extends to Dongbong Peak – Gwanbong Peak (Gatbawi Stone Buddha) in the east and Seobong Peak – Gasan Fortress in the west (20km long). It also offers many beautiful trails. Located to the north of Gyeongsan City, Palgongsan Mountain has a splendid history, as many ancient temples and historical sites such as the Gatbawi Stone Buddha, Wonhyosa Temple, Cheonseongsa Temple and Bulguksa Temple are found on this mountain.  


Gyeongsangbuk-do(Gyeongju-si)

Namsan Mountain, designated as World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, envelops the surrounding areas of Surime, a restaurant where Park Mi-suk, the director of Surime and a graduate of the Royal Cuisine Institute, showcases her special royal cuisine of the Joseon Dynasty. Surime has a garden where its own fresh ingredients are grown that deliver an authentic taste of royal cuisine. Surime also offers a program for visitors to learn about royal cuisine, in the hopes of  passing along the splendor of royal cuisine to as many as possible. Captured within Surime's dishes, one can discover the beauty of Gyeongju, a city with a prosperous history of thousands of years during the Silla Dynasty.


Gyeongsangbuk-do(Andong-si)

Andong Folk Museum holds a Traditional Folk Game Event each year to greet Lunar New Year's Day for tourists and visitors returning to their hometown. During the event, visitors can revisit local history through watching traditional folk plays, and make New Year's resolutions. Traditional activities offered include yutnori, neolttwigi (seesaw jumping), jegichagi (Korean hacky sack), kite-flying, paengichigi (top-spinning) and tohu (arrow throwing), rolling a hoop, geunettwigi (traditional swing), and skipping rope.


Gyeongsangbuk-do(Pohang-si)

Located 26km south of Pohang, Guryongpo Port serves as the docking port for squid fishing boats in the East Coast. Around the breakwater, rudder fish, seaperch, and rockfish are caught all throughout the year. Yellowtails are abundant from September through October followed by the season for Japanese seerfish.


Gyeongsangbuk-do(Gyeongju-si)

Fifteen hundred years ago, there was a story about the Heroes of the Silk Road. Silla: Basilla was inspired by Kush-Nama, a Persian epic poem. It was then recompositioned centering around the characters in Kush-Nama, Prince Abtin and his son Fereydun, as well as the princess of Silla, Farārang. It takes place after the Sasanian Empire, the last pre-Islamic Persian empire, had ended. The story depicts the collision and harmonization of the three different cultures of Persia, Silla, and Arab. Dynamic storytelling is created through the characters and scenes. The spectacular stage sets, lighting, and video give the production incredible visual appeal. Also, specially designed props crossing the Silk Road and battle scenes of Zahhak and Fereydun allow the audience to feel as if they are part of a page in history.
