Seoul Former Russian Legation
Seoul(Jung-gu)

The Russian Legation was built in a Renaissance style in 1890. Russian architect, A. J. Scredin Sabatine designed the structure. In 1895, during the Joseon Dynasty, the Eulmisabyeon Incident took place as a show of force by the Japanese.Empress Myeongseong-hwanghu was emerging as a strong figure in Korea at a time when a power struggle between Japan, China, Russia, and other powers were taking place. Japanese Minister, Miura Goro saw her as a threat and ordered her assassination. After hearing news of the Empress’s assassination, King Gojong and the Crown Prince sought refuge in the Russian Embassy for one year.After 1945, the Soviet Union took over the embassy until it was almost completely destroyed by a fire during the Korean War [1950~1953]. The only remaining parts of the building are the tower and basement areas. The building was restored to its current condition in 1973 and is now enjoyed by many as a public park.

Seoul Center for Important Intangible Cultural Asset

Created by the government to hand down traditions and preserve important, intangible cultural assets, the center supports cultural masters in the training of their pupils and their efforts to promote Korean traditional culture to the general public.The center houses 8 groups that represent the music field. Serving not only as a training ground for those specializing in the arts, the center also seeks to reach out to the general public through regular programs and recitals. Musicians also participate in musical conferences, events and performances on a national and international level.There are 12 craft groups at the center that are directed by craft masters who have been designated 'Important Intangible Cultural Assets.' Craft groups host a number of training programs.Other special features of the center include the 'Pungryu,' a 147-seat folk theatre; the 2 or 3 story 'Traditional Craft Hall' with an open-run exhibition hall and planned exhibition hall; a shop selling the works of the artists; a seminar room; a training room; and a practical training room.

At "Times Square" (the hotel lobby) guests can receive information about the hotel or assistance from the staff. For a little bit of down time, guests can stop by “Broadway,” the lobby lounge, for a cup of coffee or head to the “New York New York” steakhouse for a family dinner or small gathering. The Chinese restaurant "China Town" and Japanese restaurant "Little Tokyo" are also popular for their well prepared dishes and quality service. The New York theme continues even in the "Yanks & Metz," a classic sports bar decorated with sports paraphernalia from Babe Ruth and other MLB stars.
