S.J. Cho Korean Paper Art Gallery is dedicated to hanji (traditional Korean paper) art and opened in July of 2011. Hanji art uses an array of colorful hanji paper to create an image that is similar to a painting, but without the paints and brushes. Paper can be torn, folded, or crumpled into different shapes to create a unique work of art. S.J. Cho Korean Paper Art is the center of the Korean Hanji Art Organization, which has helped popularize hanji art over the past 30 years. Visitors can browse through hanji art at the gallery, enjoy traditional tea at the café, or look out at Bukhansan Mountain on the rooftop. The Experience Hall is located in the basement, where visitors can learn more about hanji art, or even try their hand at making their own.

Museum Kimchikan

Museum Kimchikan is a unique museum dedicated to kimchi and kimjang, the process of making kimchi which was designated as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The museum was also selected by CNN in March 2015 as one of the world’s top 11 food museums. Visitors can learn the history of kimchi as well as learn and get a taste of the different types of kimchi. Audio guides in English, Japanese, and Chinese are available for international visitors and a guided tour of the museum by a docent is also available at designated times. The Daegu Yangnyeongsi (medicine market) is a major herbal medicine market specializing in the practices of Oriental medicine that dates all the way back to the Joseon Dynasty. During the era of the Joseon Dynasty, the Daegu Yangnyeongsi was at the center of the herbal medicine world, providing Oriental medicine to travelers from all around the world including Japan, China, Russia, Manchuria and many other countries. To this day, the Daegu Yangnyeongsi still flows with herb farmers, collectors, sellers, and buyers operating over 50 herbal medicine stores and 25 herbal clinics with 85 herbal medicine doctors, and 20 ginseng stores. The market is also known to be the first wholesale medicine market in Korea. The exhibition hall located on the 2nd floor of the wholesale market offers baskets used to collect herbs, ‘yakjanggi’ to store herbs, scales to measure the weight of the herbs, and old books on herbal medicine. The Medicine Festival is held every year in May and boasts a wide variety of fun-filled events like traditional folk music programs, an herb exhibition, and herb-cutting competitions.

The foodie K-pop singer’s favorite menu item is the spicy dog, which is extremely hot yet highly addictive. The signature dish is the galbi (grilled beef ribs) rice, which comes with nachos, sour cream, jalapeño peppers and vegetables.
