Gimnyeong Maze Park
Jeju-do(Jeju-si) , The Eastern Part of the Jeju Island

Gimnyeong Maze Park (김녕미로공원) is located between the two major tourist destinations of Manjanggul Cave and Gimnyeongsagul Cave. It was designed by the world famous company Adrian Fisher Minotaur Maze Designs and funded by the life-time savings of an American Professor at Cheju National University, Frederic H. Dustin, whose love for Jeju has kept him on the island for 27 years. This unique maze park contains foliages from all over Asia and has been personally maintained by Dr Dunstan since 1987.Gimnyeong Maze Park contains a maze that has seven images incorporated in it. The maze is in the shape of the Jeju Island, and its images that can be clearly seen from above include the following: a serpent, which was an object of worship on the island until the mid-70s; native horses of Jeju Island, which were brought there by Mongolians as far back as 1276; the ship, the Sparrowhawk, that was shipwrecked on the island in 1653 bringing Hendrick Hamel and his company of Dutch sailors to the Joseon Kingdom; and dolmens that are relics from the Bronze Age. All of these images are famous symbols or landmarks of Jeju Island.There are three skywalks called ‘gureum dari’ and an observatory, which are popular photo sites for tourists. They offer panoramic views of the entire maze. There are four ways to get through the maze from the entrance. If you use a map, it will take only 5 minutes, but without a map it’s a bit more difficult and can take up to 20 minutes. Some visitors have been known to spend up to 50 minutes lost in the maze before giving up and calling for help!

Wawoojongsa Temple (Waujeongsa) - Yongin

Wawoojongsa Temple was established in 1970 by Kim Hae-Geun, a monk who was displaced by the Korean War. The temple is not only a reflection of the monk’s sincere hope for the reunification of the North and South, but is also the birthplace of the Korean Buddhist Nirvana Order.There are over 3,000 Buddhist statues on the temple grounds, the most famous of which are the Buldu (Buddha heads) placed at the entrance and the Wabul (reclining Buddha statue) stationed in the middle of the mountain. The 8m-high Buldu is the largest of its kind and the Wabul, which is made from a juniper tree from Indonesia, is 3m in x_height and 12m in length. As the world’s biggest wooden Buddhist sculpture, the Buldu has been registered in the Guinness Book of Records.The temple is also home to a 5-Dhyani Buddha made of 30 tons of brass (taking decades to complete) as well as the 12-ton Bell of Unification (struck during the Seoul Olympics in 1988). Other attractions include a bronze statue of Buddha sitting with his legs half-crossed (the largest of its kind in the nation) and the nation’s only Sakyamuni Bulgohangsang statue.One of the other unique things about the temple is the Pagoda of Unification, located besides the stairs of the Hall of Nirvana. The pagoda is comprised of stones brought by visitors from various holy sites all over the world. Hence, the construction of the Pagoda is a never-ending progress. As a symbol of the pervading hope for world peace, a wide range of Buddhist statues from many countries including India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, China and Thailand are on display around the temple, allowing visitors to learn about Buddhist cultures from all over the world.

National Maritime Museum
Jeollanam-do(Mokpo-si)

The National Maritime Museum is the only domestic marine museum. Opened in 1994, it is a 2-story building with a B1 floor. There are 4 main exhibit halls and one special exhibit hall. At Exhibition 1, "Underwater Cultural Heritage from Wando," about 3,000 Goryeo ceramic relics excavated from just off the Eoduri sea, Wando district, and the Wooden ship of the Goryeo (918~1392) dynasty are exhibited. The Wando ship is a model of the original boat, half the size of the original ship. You can view the landscape around the old sea and learn about the world’s marine excavation history in this exhibition hall. At Exhibition 2, “Underwater Cultural Heritage from Sinan," you can view 22,000 pieces of 14th century Chinese ships, crockery and golden-ware. At Exhibition 3, "The Life of a Korean Fishing Village," you can learn about the traditional fishing techniques and tools, and you can view the living conditions of those times. It is interesting to compare the fishing methods of today to the past. And at Exhibition 4, "Korean Traditional Boats," you can see the development of Korean shipping and shipbuilding. There are many models displayed, from the ships of the Goryeo dynasty to the oilers of today. The rabbit and turtle shaped ships are quite eye-catching. When you have finished touring all the exhibit halls, take a stroll down the lounge to the souvenir shop to relax. On clear warm days, it is soothing to sit in the lounge under the warm sun. The sunshine coming through the window is brilliant. After a break, you can go outside to the outdoor exhibit, and enjoy seeing more traditional ships. The park is best known for its spectacular sunset views, which is often regarded as a perfect complement to Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak's view of the sunrise.To the north of Sarabong Park is a spectacular view of the expansive blue waters and to the south is Hallasan Mountain. Along the way to the park is Mochungsa Temple and to the east lies Byeoldobong Peak, where a paragliding runway is located. At the foot of Sarabong is Udang Library. The road from the library, passing behind Sarabong Peak to Jeju Harbor and to Tapdong provides a very scenic driving route.
