Biyangdo Island

Biyangdo Island can be seen directly from Hyeopjae Beach, which is located northwest of Hanrim Port. The word Biyang means to fly over, and indeed, legend has it that Biyangdo Island actually flew over from China more than 1000 years ago. The tiny island, accompanied by Hallim Park, Hyeopjae Beach, and Hallim Port, create a truly picturesque landscape. At the peak in the middle of the island are two craters that form a basin, which is home to a colony of Villbrunea frutescens, the only natural colony in Korea. The island is also home to over 80 fish and various marine plants.Biyangdo Island is a popular destination for both summer fishing and as a place for a light hike. Although Biyang Peak is not high (only 114m above sea level) it still offers visitors an opportunity to overlook the breathtaking landscape from Mt. Halla to various volcanic mountains (called Oreum in Jeju dialect), dazzling coastal lines, and the glittering waters of Hyeopjae Beach. There are a small number of houses scattered around a quay at the foot of Biyang Peak, as well as an old unmanned lighthouse, adding flavor to the island.Visitors can get to the island by passenger boat departing from Hallim Port and operating two times a day at 9:00 a.m. and 15:00 p.m. Please note, however that during holidays and weekends, it operates only once a day, at noon. Daejeon Station
Daejeon(Dong-gu)

Daejeon Station is located in the center of the country, and is a key stop on the Korea Railroad (KORAIL) line. The station opened January 1, 1905, when the railway between Seoul and Busan opened. Located in the old downtown area on the southeast side of Daejeon, the station serves as a railway transportation hub. All the passenger trains bound for Korea’s major cities including Seoul, Gwangju, Dongdaegu (East Daegu), Busan, Ulsan, and Pohang pass through this station. In front of the station is Daejeon Subway Station.

Guwau Village (Taebaek, Gangwon-do) is host to the Taebaek Sunflower Festival, a celebration of the area’s wide array of colorful wildflowers and endless fields of sunflowers (the largest sunflower patch in Korea). The festival takes place in about a 661,157㎡ filled with 300 species of wild flowers along with a sunflower field walking path and other hands-on program with wild flowers.

Gijang Market is an outdoor market selling various products including fishery and agricultural products. It features seasonal fishery products. Seaweed and anchovy are available in spring, while cutlass fish is famous in autumn. The cutlass fish sold during the two months before and after Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) are known across the country for their extraordinary taste. Reasonable prices attract customers to this market, because prices here are even lower than that of the Korea’s largest seafood market, Jagalchi Market.

This granite pagoda from the late Baekje period in Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do has been designated as National Treasures No. 9. It is generally known as the ‘Baekje 5-story Pagoda.’In the past, it would have been called ‘Pyeongjetap.’ As one of two extant Baekje pagodas, this stone pagoda itself is a precious artifact and very important in establishing the lineage of Korean stone pagoda patterns. With refined and creative features, this pagoda exemplifies the beauty and elegance that were imitated in pagodas built in later periods.
