Gyeongsangnam-do(Goseong-gun)

Hyundai Heavy Industries (현대중공업) started its shipbuilding industry in 1972 and developed into one of the greatest shipbuilding companies in the world. Jeollanam-do(Goheung-gun)

Naro Space Center (나로우주센터) – Korea’s first – is a launching pad for various space projectiles, including the rocket-launching of satellites. A ceremony was held upon the completion of the Center on June 11, 2009, making Korea the 13th country in the world to have a space center. Naro Space Center mounts exhibitions and educates about space science technology. There is a Space Science Museum consisting of science exhibits, a 4D experience room (to be built) and an outdoor exhibition where students and children can learn about and experience space science technology.

Oegosan Onggi Village is the largest producer of traditional onggi (earthenware) in Korea. The village was established by artisans and potters from all over Korea to practice and preserve the tradition of onggi craft. The village itself is a massive collection of various earthenware products, creating unique folk village scenery. Also, a range of facilities are located inside the village for visitors to explore the culture of onggi. They include Onggi Cultural Center displaying the history and culture of onggi products, Village Information Center equipped with the village history hall, multimedia room and seminar room, and Onggi Academy used for conducting hands-on learning programs and cultivating professional artisans. Visitors can observe the crafting of onggi products, while making their own. Since 2000, the annual Oegosan Onggi Festival has been held every October to celebrate the tradition and practice of onggi crafts. Meanwhile, in 2011, the onggi pottery standing over two meters high in the village was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Gangwon-do(Chuncheon-si)

Constructed in 1973, Soyangdam is the largest rock filled dam in Asia. As the waterway is used to bridge together cities, Soyangho Lake which is the largest artificial lake in Korea is called ‘the sea inside the land.’Soyangho Lake has the largest fishing farm, and is called the fresh-water fish museum because more than 50 kinds of fresh-water fish such as cyprinus carpio nudu, trout, carp, eel, and smelt live here. The valleys around the lake is especially famous for smelt fishing in the winter, and nearby are Cheongpyeongsa Temple built in the Goryeo Dynasty and Mt. Obongsan. There are the Yanggu Prehistoric Museum, the 4th tunnel, Eulji Observatory, Pallang Waterfall, Hugok Mineral Spring, Cheonmi Valley, Wolmyeong valley, Suipcheon and Yang-gu Pallang Folk Center on the Yanggu area. The upper area of Soyangho Lake is the Injegun area and includes Gyeongnojeong. There is a ferry terminal and other facilities at the top of the dam.


Jeollabuk-do(Gimje-si)

Moaksan Mountain (모악산, 793.5m) is located in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do and is home to several Buddhist temples: Geumsansa, Guisinsa, Suwangsa, and Daewonsa. From the top of the mountain you can see the the Honam Pyeongya Delta as well as the Gimje Pyeongya Delta.Designated as a provincial park in 1971, Moaksan is known for its incredible views and cultural heritages. Daewonsa and Suwangsa temples are located on the southeast side of the mountain and Guisinsa Temple sits to the west. Geumsansa Temple, built during the Baekje period (599AD), holds many precious pieces of Buddhist art.One of the preferred methods for ascending the mountain is a trail along the ridge behind Simwonam, which is particularly eye-catching in the spring when the mountain azaleas are in full bloom. As you reach the summit, the Gimje Pyeongya Delta and Mangyeonggang River come into view, along with Mt. Unjangsan and the city of Jeonju. The cherry blossom tunnel extending from the parking lot to Iljumun is another must-see for those who visit in the spring.
