Chuam Chotdaebawi Rock

Chuam Chotdaebawi Rock (추암 촛대바위) in Donghae-si, Gangwon-do Province is one of Korea’s most famous tourist attractions. The surrounding rocks are named after their shapes; "Geobukbawi"(turtle), "Bububawi"(couple), and "Hyeongjebawi"(brothers).Chotdaebawi Rock is a popular place for visitors to come and enjoy the magnificent beauty of the sun slowly peeking its way over the edge of the rock face. The beauty of the rock at sunrise is so picturesque that it is even used as a backdrop for the Aegukga (the Korean national anthem) when it is aired on KBS (Korean Broadcasting System).Other nearby attractions include Chuam Beach and Haeamjeong (a type of pavilion dating back to the Joseon Dynasty).* The Legend of Chotdaebawi RockOnce upon a time, there was a man who lived in Chuam who had a concubine. His wife was jealous of the second wife and the conflict between the two women continually escalated. One day, god became enraged over their continual quarreling and threw lighting down from heaven, striking both women dead. The newly-made widower missed his wives so much that he remained frozen in his loneliness and eventually turned into a rock, which is now Chotdaebawi Rock that we see today.

Platform Place Myeong-dong Branch first opened in November 2011 on the main street of Myeong-dong in Jung-gu, Seoul. As a specialty select shop selling various imported brands that are not officially distributed in Korea, among many fashion selections, Platform Place carries products of Saint James, an imported brand with a long history, and somewhat unfamiliar labels such as YMC, Lavenham, Herschel, and Veja as well as various fashion sundries and living goods, mostly targeting Korean and foreign tourists visiting the area. Everywhere on display are cute, colorful interior goods. The store is shaped long, so from the entrance, displays are divided on both walls and in the center; the modern interior design and product display combined make shopping very pleasant. The display in the center is filled with new arrivals, brands on sale, and trendy looks recommended by celebrities. Foreign language service is available all day long. The store is open daily except on Chuseok and Lunar New Year’s Day. Parking is usually difficult in Myeong-dong, but the Platform Place, which is located close to Myeong-dong Station on Seoul Subway Line No. 4, is easily accessible by public transportation.

Imcheonggak House

The Imcheonggak Pavilion was built as a home during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1919) because of one aristocratic family’s love for the scenic beauty of the surrounding area. The most famous structure on this property is the annexed pavilion. Imcheonggak is designated Treasure No.182. Thankfully this structure was untouched during the Japanese invasion taking place from 1592-1598. An autograph of the famous Confucius scholar, Lee Hwang (1501-1570), can be found hanging outside the pavilion.
