Donggang River

The Donggang River flows through the Gangwon-do district, and is a tributary to the South Hangang River. The Donggang River spans an area of 60km from Jeongseon to Yeongwol. The Donggang River is a well-preserved river, left untouched due to the strong current of the waters and the rugged geography of the mountains. The Donggang River follows a snaky path splitting the chiseled cliffs surrounding it. Many tourists visit the area to see rare animals such as otters, Mandarin ducks, and Chinese scops owls and so on. Donggang River is also famous for white-water rafting.

The Bucheon Bow Museum (부천 활박물관) was established to show visitors the spirit of the Korean archery, and demonstrate its ancestral traditions of bowyer craftsmanship. The museum houses traditional bows (gukgung, 국궁), which are considered, prized cultural pieces, and have been made by a Bucheon family, which has fostered a lineage of bowyers across five generations for over than 160 years. In addition, the museum exhibits various pieces and articles such as gukgung, arrows, and other military technologies.

Songaksan Mountain

Songaksan Mountain is also called 99 Bong (99 Peaks) due to its 99 small peaks. The road from Sanbanggulsa Temple in Southern Jeju to Songaksan Mountain is a famous coastal drive with breathtaking scenic views. Though not as enormous as Hallasan Mountain, the view from the peak of Songaksan is truly scenic. From the summit, one can see nearby islands such as Marado, Gapado, and Hyeongjeseom, and as far as Hallasan Mountain and the Pacific Ocean.The main peak rises 104 meters above sea level. To the northwest of the main peak is an expansive prairie with several peaks. There is a crater about 500 meters in diameter and 80 meters in depth, with some blackish volcanic ash still remaining inside. Looking along the jagged coastline, one can spot the large man-made caves built during the Japanese occupation. The seashore at the base of Songaksan Mountain is a famous fishing ground and diverse fish such as sawedged perch and black porgy are caught here.

Muchangpo Beach

Along the gently sloping beach is a vast pine tree forest, providing a relaxing place to enjoy the fresh waters and cool shade.During the tides of the summer season, you can witness a miraculous phenomenon where a road seems to emerge from the depths of the ocean, similar to how Moses parted the Red Sea. This happens near the embankments of the beach that extend to about 1.5 km, and occurs only twice a year during the high tide season on the lunar calendar.Furthermore, about a 20-minute drive away, is the Daechun seaport where fresh and delicious seafood and cooked crab meals can be bought at a cheap price.The Mysterious Sea-Parting ExperienceAt the Muchang-po observation tower, which is located on top of a hill 50m away from the Muchang-po entrance, you can observe the spectacular view of the mysterious sea-parting phenomenon.The sea-parting phenomenon, which happens on the 15th and 30th of July on the Lunar Calendar, is accompanied by various activities such as the clam hunting and arm wrestling competitions, as well as traditional Korean folk games.

Pocheon Idong Galbi Maeul Village

Idong Galbi is a famous term for Korean representing the delicious hanu (Korean beef) short ribs that's been made with high quality meat and marinated sauce. Once the meat is prepared, it is usually marinated in sweet soy sauce and various other fruit juice for some days. The recipes could differ slightly for each restaurant, therefore serving as a barometer that differentiates one store's taste from another. Nowadays, people can see signboards embedding "Idong Galbi" in many of establishments in Korea, however, the food was originated from Jangam-ri, Idong-myeon located in Pocheon of Gyeonggi-do. Now a huge town housing dozens of the galbi restaurants, this galbi-chon (or galbi village in English), only began with two stores in the early 1960s. 'Idong Galbi Jip (이동갈비집)' and 'Neutari Galbi (느타리갈비집)' were them, and after it earned the fame of becoming the 'local dish' of Pocheon, many more restaurants began to spring out. The secret to Idong Galbi is that they are slowly cooked over charcoal fire and thus has an additional "fire taste" that many like, as well as the tenderness that even the old and young enjoy. Secondly, the sauce is made only with natural ingredients such as pear, radish, onions and others, making it especially tasty and luring people to come for more. Besides, Idong makgeolli (rice wine) is also a famous local product that complements well with the meal. These days, unfortunately due to cost issues, some restaurants can no longer use hanu to make galbi but American beef are used instead.
