Gangwon-do(Chuncheon-si)

The Gangchon Resort (강촌유원지) is a small village nestled along the Bukan River in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do. The river is on one side of the village, while Bongwhasan Mountain and Samaksan Mountain are on the opposite side, creating a beautiful scenery from all directions.Gangchon Station is conveniently located near the entrance to the recreational area. Many young couples enjoy taking the romantic train rides to this cozy little village. Therefore, this spot has became a popular place for college students to go to on weekend trips.The village area has campgrounds, a youth hostel and other lodging facilities, bicycle paths, bungee jump facilities and many other recreational areas.In addition, the area is especially famous for mountain biking. There are many places to rent bicycles; for those are not accustomed to mountain biking, motorized bicycles are also available. The most popular bicycle course is the well-made route to Gugok Waterfall. Bicycles can be left in the parking lot located near the entrance to the waterfalls. From the entrance, it is just a short hike up to the waterfall. As there will be many people using this popular bike route, follow the crowds and do not worry about getting lost. The 67 meter high waterfall is a natural wonder. People flock to this spot in the summer to escape the heat and in the winter to see the ice sheets gracefully frozen in time.

Gyeonggi-do(Yangju-si)

The Songchu Resort (송추유원지) is 3km south of Songchu station and is easy to access. Consisting of 4km-long valleys, it has a swimming pool, a fishing spot and other facilities. Seasonal fruits from local farms such as strawberries, pears, peaches and grapes sate the appetites of visitors. Designated as a national park, the area is characterized by its beautiful natural scenery, undulating valleys, and a three-tiered waterfall. ※ Camping and cooking is banned in the Bukhansan National Park area.


Jeollanam-do(Yeongam-gun)

The historic Dogapsa Buddhist Temple is located within the Wolchulsan National Park and in 1984, was designated Provincial Cultural Property No. 79. At an elevation of 376m, the site offers spectacular views of the surrounding area, so impressive it carries the nickname ‘Sogeumgang River’, meaning “Small Geumgang River” of Jeollanamdo-Province. Founded by Buddhist Monk Doseon during the later years of the Silla Kingdom, the temple houses many historic and cultural treasures, most notable of which is Haetalmun Gate (gate of emancipation); designated as National Treasure No. 50 and one of few remaining original Korean structures. In addition, there are the Maaeyeoraejwasang (National Treasure No.144) and Seokjoyeoraejwasang (National Treasure No.89) sitting Buddha statues, the Mokjomunsu•Bohyeondongjasang (Treasure No. 1134), the Doseonsumibi (Jeollanam-do Tangible Cultural Property No.38) and the Daeungbojeon, or ‘main temple hall.’ An added bonus is the walkway lined with cherry trees leading to Dogapsa Temple. During the spring season, the 1km path offers a fabulous touch to the pristine surroundings. Nearby attractions are Wolchulsan National Park, Historical Site of Dr. Wangin, Yeongam Pottery Museum and Gurim Village.

‘Saturday Premium Performance’ takes place 50 times this year from January 7 through December 29. Seventeen different kinds of programs consisting of traditional music, dance, and singing performances will be performed throughout the year. Nine programs are suitable for people who have never experienced Korean traditional performing arts before. They consist of court music, solo performances, solo court music performances, traditional dance, folk dance, and play. These nine programs will be staged 38 times total.There will also be six masters’ programs comprised of performances of the maestros of Gugak (Korean traditional music), traditional dance, and play. Each program will be performed only once. Two intangible cultural asset programs also will be performed, consisting of Korean intangible cultural assets that have been added to the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List. They will be performed three times each.Whether you are new to Gugak or an avid lover of Gugak, the Saturday Premium Performance offers performances for everyone.
