At Seoul Drum Festival, professional and amateur percussionists from around the world gather to stage exciting performances featuring different types of percussion instrument as used in diverse genres of music.

Arts Council Korea is to host 2016 ARKO Contemporary Orchestra Music Festival for Yangak (Western music) on January 26, 2016 at 20:00 at Concert Hall of Seoul Arts Center, lead by Choi Suyeol and played by Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra. ARKO Contemporary Orchestra Music Festival (a.k.a. Achangje) tries to find up-to-date art pieces reflecting Korean composer’s innovative creativity and plays a big role in creative Korean music. First performed through Achangje, the performances are again performed at other locations nationally and internationally, including European countries.These music pieces are sure to be cherished for many years by audiences. Gwangju Design Biennale is hosting with the theme of ‘Design x Shin Myeong’ for 30 consecutive days. This year’s festival aims to find new designs for the future and suggest ways to interpret futuristic designs. Visitors will be able to learn how the design changes the daily life through various exhibitions.

The National Folk Museum of Korea will host an event in celebration of Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving Day), featuring abundant hands-on programs, exhibitions, and performance perfect for enjoying Chuseok with full of joy. The event prepares 44 different programs including seasonal customs, folk games, traditional art programs, various folk performances and more, to make a special and memorable Chuseok holiday.

Seogwipo Chilsimni was originally was the name of a 27 km strip of land from Seongeup Village to Seogwipo Harbor in Jeju Island. However, over the years it has come to mean “homeland” for Jeju citizens. The Seogwipo area is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in Jeju due to its beautiful ocean landscapes.The festival’s program includes folk performances rooted in Jeju’s history, legends, and natural environment. There are also a variety of ocean sports activities, which are very popular with visitors.

Namsangol Hanok Village, located in Jung-gu, Seoul, holds the Five Nobleman’s Seollal Feast to greet the New Year. Various events to enjoy the New Year have been prepared.

Gyeryong Military Culture Festival held in Gyeryong-si, Chungcheongnam-do where tri-service military is located, features one of the nation’s most representative festivals, attracting about 900,000 visitors each year. The festival is considered to be unique as it deals with a military culture. It offers fantastic air shows, various military gear experiences such as repel, military’s zip-line, helicopter, armored car, and other devices, as well as martial music performance, other cultural art performances and events for visitors. Simultaneously, the Army Festival is also held during the Gyeryong Military Culture Festival and thus, visitors can enjoy both festivals at the same time.

Seosan Chrysanthemum Festival takes place at in apple orchard in Gagu-ri, Gobuk-myeon, Seosan-si, Chungcheongnam-do. The festival grounds are decorated with color chrysanthemum exhibitions amidst bright red apples. Visitors can enjoy taking photos of the fully blooming flowers and ripe apples at this festival full of the scent of autumn.  

The Jarasum Fireworks Festival will be held in August on Jaraseom Island. In the day time, various activities such as themed zones for camping, beer and barbeque, and tanning are available, and at night fireworks shows and performances will entertain guests through the hot summer night.

The Pyeongchang Trout Festival takes place during winter in the town of Jinbu-myeon in Pyeongchang-gun district. Visitors to the festival can enjoy a variety of programs including ice and lure fishing for trout, snow programs, ice programs, folk programs, and more. There will also be traditional folk games including sledding and top spinning, and visitors can try out sports such as riding 4-wheel ATVs, snow rafting, sleigh trains. Any trout caught from ice fishing and lure fishing can be prepared right away at a nearby restaurant.Trout farming first started in Pyeongchang due to its cold, clear waters. Trout offer plenty of nutrition, and their natural taste makes them delicious when eaten raw.
